Arch Madness All Tourney Team

Postby MVCfans » March 6th, 2011, 8:02 pm

The 2011 State Farm MVC All-tournament team includes Jake Odum and Aaron Carter of Indiana State and Kyle Weems, Adam Leonard and Jermaine Mallett of Missouri State.

Mallett is the tourney's Most Outstanding Player, marking just the third time in tourney history the MOP has not been on the winning team.

so Mallett, the guy who played on the losing team AND who fumbled the ball out of bounds at the end of the game, is the MOP?

Can't argue with that analysis. Mallett should not have been MOP. His TO ended the game. Odom was the best player on the court.

I've got nothing against MSU or Mallett, but that is a complete travesty. Odum was, hands down, the best performer at the tournament. Did the voters just not want to give it to a freshman? Perhaps there is some fear as to what it would look like that a freshman is better than some of the seniors on the court?

I also agree that Odum was the best player on the court.

How in the world did Mallet get that, especially considering he basically eliminated MSU's last chance to tie or win it? How a MSU player even got considered is a big travesty.

Oh well. I'm sure Odum will take his NCAA appearance over Mallet's MOP Award in the NIT.

I don't think you can say one play knocks a guy out of the running but I would have given it to Odum since ISUb won. But don't think it was out of this world that Mallet got it as he about averaged a double-double and still had a heck of a championship game.

Odum was real good, but so was everybody on the Indiana State team. Key word being team. They play so well together, everybody knows their roll. They all make each other better.

This is not the same Jake Odum I saw play in Des Moines earlier this season.

Is it just me, or are Odum and Jake Kelly about as similar as 2 players can be?

Ballots were collected with 2 minutes left, at that time pretty much everyone on press row felt like MSU was still going to pull it off.

Seriously Lets vote on a feeling...you are privy to that info so you must have voted. Care to publically change your vote.

This is the TOURNAMENT MVP, not the FINALS MVP, and not the PLAY AT THE END OF THE GAME MVP. Mallett averaged 14.3 pts, 9.3 reb, 2.3 assists and 1.6 TOs in 35 minutes per game. Odom averaged 12.3 pts, 4 reb, 3.3 assists and 2.6 TOs in 30 minutes. Odom had a great tournament and was a big reason for their finals win, but Mallet was better thoughout the tourney. If you are going to kick Mallett because of a TO, then you must kick Odom as he averaged more TOs per game than Mallett, which is a bad argument. And if you are going to look at the end of the game....isn't it Odom that choked on a FT to keep MSU in the game with 20 seconds to go? Kelly was the clutch player that knocked both of his down to get the lead to 4.

I thought Mallett fumbled the ball out of bounds as well, but a friend watching on TV told me an ISU player knocked the ball out of his hands out of bounds. Don't blame Mallett, credit good D. Still, that one play does not define a tourney.

I told the group I was with that I was with right after the game that the shame of MSU losing is that they would not give Mallett the MVP since they lost, as he was clearly deserving. Credit the voters for getting this right regardless of who won the game.
