I bought my tickets today. I did go to the UCF game a few days ago as well. I went to see little Jordan, not Creighton. And yes, I applauded loudly when I heard Wichita State beat C of C. As for Jordan, the Jays owned him. I attend these post season things only when there is a storyline or compelling reason to go. Now I'm going to see the whole Creighton/ Altman soap opera. It should be quite fun. It appears to me that Altman really, really doesn't want to play this game, he might be scared. In all honesty, it's a no win for him.
As for what I saw at the UCF game, I was extremely impressed with how Creighton played, they looked much better than they looked all season. They played with passion and confidence. I don't know if they are finally getting accustomed to a new offense and defense or if the players are just beginning to reach their potential, but they are different. They look compfortable in what they are doing and aren't having lapses or making many mistakes. And it wasn't just the competition, UCF is no slouch, they were quick, athletic and yes, good; they were a game or two away from being in the big dance this year. UCF could very well be an NCAA team next year. If what I saw carries over to next year, Creighton will be very good. NCAA good. And what little they lose, they make up for ten fold with the players coming in.
Now, on to the big show on Monday, Altman is a very good coach and can find ways to win with inferior talent, but I think the Creighton players that he recruited might have a little chip on their shoulders. I hope the student section is loud, but I really hope that after the game is over, you see Altman and his kids from Creighton embrace each other. You can't fault any coach for taking the opportunity to move up to the big dollars and big show, but Altman owed them an explaination and a goodbye. Sneaking out late at night from Lincoln was not the way to go.
