And if we promote Harris, then just go ahead and fire Moats before we hire the head coach. He is not that kind of coach, and this is not that kind of job. Stop being so parochial and go get a player.

Why no to Harris? He would keep the same system 'Zo had and would probably keep us on a lot of current recruits...

Good for Counzo. He's really a class act and deserves a shot at the big time. As for promoting an assistant into his old job, don't be surprised if one or more join him at UT. You might also see his top recruits follow him. This won't be good for the Valley, but we will survive as always.

Because there's nothing in his pedigree to suggest that he is ready for this sort of job. He MIGHT keep the recruits, but he also has to be able to Coach. Martin is too young to have created coattails of his own. We don't necessarily need a name, but we need to actually look and see who's interesting. A knee-jerk hiring of Harris screams "I'm too lazy to look, and, after all, we love everyone who is already in Springpatch".

What was Martin making and what was the planned increase? I guess what I'm asking is how high do you think MSU is willing to pay if they come across the right experienced/successful coach.

I don't mean that to sound jerky.

How about Danny Manning?

He was at about 300k and the raise was to about 600k.

I would imagine that the new coach will be back at around 300k as 600k is probably our ceiling...

Interesting idea...a good recruiter and a guy who could work with both Patterson and Rhine. I don't know whether he's ready for a head job, but I bet he could keep recruits. A name I hadn't heard yet.

Well I noticed BU might have hired Kent States coach. Looks like his package was around 300K a year at Kent State and that they probably couldn't afford to go higher. So somewhere between 400 and 600 should be able to get a good/experienced coach from a slightly lower level. Hopefully MSU does their homework and finds one if thats the route they go.
