Not sure, but I think Michael Menser, InSU, graduated in 2001 which would put in the last decade. Menser was one of the best guards, along with Ryan Sears of Creighton, the valley has had in the past 10 yrs.

Creighton and InSU fans saw those two go toe to toe for four years…..always an epic battle.

Pinkie wrote:Funk was never an MVC POY, so I couldn't put him on the first team list. Not sure if Williams was either. Korver and Brooks are probably 1-2, but there could be great debate after that.

it took korver to keep williams from being poy, that really shouldnt matter all that much

Menser did graduate in '01 but he doesn't belong in this discussion. Ryan Sears was FAR superior to Michael Menser (to say nothing of 10-15 other guards). Menser was mostly a 3 point specialist and an average defender, nothing like the spectacular defender Sears was. Both were solid floor leaders, but don't kid yourself, anyone worth their salt would take Ryan Sears over Michael Menser every day of the week and twice on Sunday. As far as that goes, Randy Burns, whom I wouldn't consider for this list for even 1 minute, could certainly be considered a better selection than Menser.

A couple of things really hit me reading this thread. First the decline of SIU is really apparent. You almost forget about there glory teams in the middle part of the decade. How the mighty have fallen, who would have called that even as recently as 2008? And the second thing is the number of Missouri HS players that have been mentioned that did not go to Missouri State. If Hinson could have landed players such as Jamaal Tatum, Paul Miller, and Anthony Tolliver there is no telling what could have happened.

I think I would go Matt Renn before Michael Menser but Menser was a tough guy and played a little bit better than just being a "3-point specialist"...that was understating his role on what was really a very good team.

Sears was significantly better than Menser. Not sure how that's debatable.

And you'll have to agree to disagree with probably everyone on this site not associated with the trees.
Sears over Menser by a lot. Neither should be in this discussion though.

If Tree posters want to be taken seriously they need to make serious posts.
