WSU's schedule isn't finalized yet, but it's been confirmed WSU has an August 12 game against the Brazilian national team.

The Wichita trip will be a little better than the UNI trip. Games should be better and the trip overall will be put together better. The group Wichita is using to organize their trip has been doing it for a long time..UNI went with a coaching buddy of McDermott/Jacobson, etc.

Nothing wrong with that. The trip was mainly for bonding and getting a look at our new guys and getting them experience together so that we have an idea of redshirts. It's not like UNI has that many financial resources available for a trip like this, gotta take what you can get

I understand the purpose of the trip...but why not just go to Canada then? Its much cheaper and you get the same results if you are only worried about "bonding" and "getting a look at our new guys". Brazil isn't exactly an inexpensive trip. Just basically commenting that UNI isn't getting the same value as Wichita. Nothing more, nothing less.

Dude, when was a Canada trip ever cool? Obviously Wichita also thought Brazil was a neat idea as well? Why didn't the Shox just go to Canada and play the national team? I'm assuming their motives are the same as UNI in taking a summer trip. I guess I should've mention that its also about giving these kids a little bit of a summer vacation as well since almost all of it has been devoted to basketball since early June

Dude, we're NORTHERN IOWA. A trip to Canada is nothing that these guys haven't seen already living here.

Because, originally, you said the trip was about "chemistry", "getting a look at the new guys", etc. Trust me, I clearly understand the reasons and motivations for going on international trips. I get it.

All I was saying is that Wichita is getting a lot better trip with their Brazilian adventure than UNI got. I think you owe it to your "student athletes" to give them the best trip if you are going to spend that amount of time and money--but just my opinion.

The trip was paid for entirely with private money. I am sure they got what they wanted-never being entirely sure what you are going to face going to a foreign country and playing under international rules.

As was stated, the primary purpose of the trip was to build chemistry and look at the new guys. There wasn't necessarily an emphasis on playing a specific level of competition. Essentially, the staff looked at this trip as a way to extend the exhibition season-prior to the season starting (unlike Illinois State's focus on continuing exhibition games into the regular season).

From what I can tell by the little information available, UNI played three professional teams and one U-19 team (twice). The schedule was done in a way to make them play three games on back-to-back-to-back days at the start of the trip. Those were the closest games, and included the U-19 games. The two blow-out wins were over professional teams in Rio, of course those teams are also in their pre-season mode.

So again, no "glamorous" opponents, but I do believe that the staff got what they wanted out of the trip, especially with the two most experienced players either out or limited (Moran and Koch).

And Brazil in winter is better than Canada in the summer.
