It's good to see Drake get some summer games in as well. Should be a great experience for the team. Playing any organized games as a team with the coaches at the helm is better than sitting at home and getting in a few pickup games.

I'll be interested to see how they do with VanDeest sidelined.

The guy who's expected to be Drake's starting center this year, Kraidon Woods, did not make the trip for some reason. I know he missed a lot of the practices because he was attending the Pete Newell Big Man Camp in Hawaii. Still, not sure why he wouldn't make the trip.

Patty Mills is from Australia. I'm pretty sure that Gonzaga has also had quite a few other Australians over the last few years. Nebraska used to have a big thug center that came from Australia as well (his name escapes me at the moment, but he looked like Lurch from the Addams family...)

Drake lost their first game to a team from New Zealand, 69-67.

Bulldogs were without Van Deest, as expected, but also played without starters Kraidon Woods (didn't make trip), Jordan Clarke (knee injury) and possible starter Frank Wiseler (illness). Not sure who else got hurt, but Drake was down to 7 healthy players by the 4th quarter.

Rayvonte Rice led Drake with 21, Jeremy Jeffers had 14.

Drake played their first game of the Australian trip last night, against the New Zealand Breakers. If Wikipedia can be believed, they were the champions of the Australian pro league last season.

Bulldogs were without 2 certain starters.....Kraidon Woods (didn't make trip) and Jordan Clarke (knee), and one possible starter, Frank Wiseler (ill).

Bulldogs lost 69-67 on a last second shot. Not sure who else got hurt, or how badly, but the story on Drake's website said Drake was down to 7 healthy players by the end of the game.

Sophomore-to-be Rayvonte Rice led the Bulldogs with 21, and freshman red-shirt Jeremy Jeffers added 14. Bulldogs starting lineup was Uhlenhopp, Simons, Jeffers, Rice and Madison (2 juniors, 1 soph, 2 frosh).

Considering the injuries/illnesses and the jet lag (Drake was playing less than 48 hours after landing in New Zealand), it sounds like they competed.

Drake loses their 2nd game in Augstralia, 84-78. Not sure what to think about it.....don't know anything about the opponent, and Drake was playing without their top 2 centers (Van Deest, Woods), top 2 power forwards (Clarke, Uhlenhopp) and top 2 point guards (Madison, Wiseler).

Rice led DU with 22 points, Simons had 18 and Jeffers 16. Rice also led Drake in rebounding (7), assists (3) and steals (4).

Bulldogs finally get a win, 57-55, after trailing by 20 in 1st half.

Simons led the way with 21, Rice with 14, including the game winner.

DU still playing without Van Deest, Woods, Clarke,Uhlenhopp and Wiseler.
