I think UNI's credit is mostly Jacobson's credit. I don't know hardly anything about UNI's team this year, but I don't think Jacobson will have them lower than fifth.
Evansville is definitely shaping up to have a really good season (compared to recently.) Simmons is doing a great job there.
I will say that it's easier to play without a presence like O'Rear if you know you're not going to have that a plan and practice accordingly. It also showed Ben a little of what he may have to deal with going into this season and that there gives him an advantage as he shapes this team for this season. They'll still struggle at times against teams like CU and WSU that have good inside games and some depth, but I think they'll do much better than some think against some of the others. Ben is a heck of a coach and will find ways to win. I don't think we'll see them challenge for the top, but I don't think we're going to see them fall to Thursday either. I could see them possibly finishing 3rd or 4th if things fall in to place for them and don't suffer any major injuries.Ali wrote:AndShock wrote:Ali wrote:Frankly, I'm a little surprised that Evansville and UNI are being given the credit they are in these polls. I agree with you about Ben.
Losing Ahelegbe is a great concern. The team we saw after Luke was injured was a shadow of what we saw at the beginning of the conference season. There are a lot of unknowns or unprovens for this season.

In this sense we are hoping that quantity beats quality. We go from playing basically 6 guys to get our points and stats to probably 8-10 guys.
Can it be done? Sure
Is it likely it will be done well enough to challenge for 1st? Probably not.
But we have enough talent coming in to avoid Thursday and should challenge for an upper half finish.

Maybe.......but I am having a hard time buying that. Quanitity never wins on limited D1 experience. I think there are quite a few teams right in the middle that could all land on Thursday. MSU and UNI included.
