That's where you form an entirely new conference. Get the best of the A-10, MVC and Horizon. Combine them with the Big East castoffs and viola! New non-BCS powerhouse basketball conference.

Xavier
Dayton
Marquette
DePaul
Butler
Wichita State
Creighton
Missouri State
St. Louis
Temple
Richmond
Cleveland State or another MVC team.

The MVC teams would dominate in baseball, I suspect.

Not sure why Missouri State would be included and not an SIU or ISUr or UNI. Cleveland State?

I've always kind of wondered how a conference split, particularly if it's the football vs non-football schools, would impact Wichita State. It's been kind of assumed/theorized that the non-football schools would form a basketball super-conference from the remnants. But WSU is a public school where as most of the others are private, and many Catholic, in affiliation. Would the private schools be willing to add a public school in with them?

Haha wrote:The MVCF league has 9 soon to be 10 members as is. I don't believe that some basketball only league is going to happen but if it did couldn't the MVCF league just be it's own league for all sports? Even if ISUr and MSU left that would be 8 and they could easily add UND or somebody along those lines to get to 9.

That's why I said in a different thread my fear is that Elgin is not being proactive in this because he assumes if any of the non-football schools get picked from the Valley that he's got an easy invite with NDSU and SDSU, maybe even WIU. There's no puking smilie or I would use it.

I didn't take a lot of time to think about the schools I listed. But I generally include MSU because of the growth of the Springfield area and size of MSU. There's more market potential there than UNI, SIU or ISUr, in my opinion. There is also a bit of a rivalry with WSU so personally I think the two should stick together if it makes sense. I picked Cleveland State because it's another public school, they have some potential to be a consistently decent basketball team, and it gives Butler a natural rival from the Horizon. I also thought Dayton and Richmond were public schools but now realize they aren't.

This post surmises big changes that cause the Valley to disintegrate, an unlikely scenario but........

From the Creighton perspective, we have a lot in common with many of those private schools and would seem to be a possible fit but the one overriding issue I believe that keeps CU out of any new basketball powerhouse/private schools league if shakeups occur is geography. I just think CU is too far out in the Plains to get lumped into a league where the next westernmost teams are in the Chicago/Milwaukee area.

I think CU could end up in a bad place if a monster shakeup occurs. WSU may be in the same position but may be close enough to some southern schools to latch onto some league reformulation down there.

Valley schools in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana have a much better chance of landing in a decent conference if need be. The MSU talk about Conference USA would likely be their ticket although a monster shakeup probably sends Memphis and perhaps other stronger CUSA teams (Tulsa, UAB) on to other pastures.

Very interesting things may happen. Being hundreds of miles from other major basketball schools just makes my stomach hurt a bit for my Jays.

The New York Times is reporting that Syrccuse and Pittsburgh are in talks with the ACC. Didn't see that coming although I applaud the ACC for biting rather than being bitten.

"Pitt, Syracuse likely gone" per Big East official.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Pittsburgh and Syracuse submitted letters of application to the Atlantic Coast Conference and are "likely gone" from the Big East, high ranking ACC and Big East officials told CBSSports.com.

Pittsburgh and Syracuse independently submitted letters of application to the ACC, a league source told CBSSports.com.

"There is no scenario where a president applies to a league and isn't admitted," a Big East official told CBSSports.com.

If the Big East disintegrates and it looks like that is the case, maybe the Big 12 is able to lure in TCU and remain viable?

This is fascinating to follow on twitter (https://twitter.com/#!/MVCfans)

per CBS: An ACC official also indicated Texas has "reached out" to the ACC, but any speculation that Texas is joining the ACC is "premature."

Surprising that a school like Syracuse would consider leaving the Big East with all of the history that they have there.

I agree - didn't see this coming at all. In fact, I thought the ACC was more likely to lose members. The question that will impact college basketball is what does the Big East do now? It could change the landscape entirely and cause issues for the A10 and MVC.
