Jet,

I hadn't thought about Notre Dame, but it would be the prefect for league for them in that they could remain independent for FB...

Dream scenario - some combination of private schools from the Big East, CAA, A10, and MVC. Make four groups of teams with 4 in each group arranged geographically. Two of the groups formed by Gtown, St Johns, nova, Mason in the east. CU, SLU, Xavier on the west.

I think it will shake down this way.

Pac-12 + Texas, TTech, Oklahoma, OK ST (16)
ACC + Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, Rutgers (16)
Big Ten stands pat for now (12)
SEC + Texas A&M, West Virginia (14)
Big XII =Iowa State, Kansas, K-State, Missouri, Baylor, TCU, Cincy, Louisville, South Florida, and BYU (10)

The remaining non-basketball schools in the Big East will likely stay mostly together and provide Notre Dame with a landing spot for it's Olympic sports. The new "Big XII" would obviously remain vulnerable to poaching from the SEC or Big Ten if/when they decide to go to 16.

The bowl structure will stay mostly the same, except there will be one more at large BCS spot in place of the Big East.

I don't know if Notre Dame would go for this or not. Georgetown, Villanova, Seton Hall, St. John's, DePaul, Marquette, and Providence would be the non-football Big East teams. Apart from Georgetown and Villanova,
there really isn't much to get excited about from a basketball standpoint for Notre Dame. Granted, Marquette has had some decent seasons and St. John's appears to be on the rise, Seton Hall, DePaul, and Providence don't big much more to the table than some of the upper level mid majors.

Unfortunately, there just aren't many powerhouse basketball programs that don't have a BCS football program as well.

I can't help but think that the Big10 is going to accept Rutgers soon. For the B10 network to grow, it isn't going to be by adding Missouri, Kansas or Kansas St. They need to expand in the New York tv market and now that Syracuse is gone, their only choice is to pick up Rutgers. They have already considered it and the ACC would be wise to corner that market by grabbing Rutgers along with Syracuse, so they better do it quick before both UCONN and Rutgers are gone to the ACC and their aspirations of expanding their network east is gone as well. Keep in mind, the big10 was also considering Pitt at one point too.

It only makes sense considering this thing has become more about markets and dollars than the schools themselves.

The real bomb will drop when Texas, TTU, OU, and OSU announce they will be going to the PAC 12. It will send all the rest of them scrambling.

If the A10 is poached from a big east breakup, then the obvious move would be to get SLU into the MVC. If it gets real bad, then I wonder if we have a shot at grabbing DePaul or Marquette (but I could really see this catholic conference picking up steam, which means we might lose Creighton).

If the big 12 survives I could also see them grabbing Boise St., UNLV and possibly Memphis too.

If Creighton does land in the super duper catholic league good for them. I was checking SLU's boards and those clowns didn't think too much of CU. I would take CU over SLU any day. However I suppose they are in a metro 3 times the size and closer to all the other schools. Omaha isn't that far from STL, Milwaukee, and Chicago. So to me despite being on the western edge they would still be close enough to at least 1/3rd of the league.

I will say if CU was to leave (couldn't blame them one bit) I would hope that either ORU gets added or WSU try to find another alternative. Just that CU is actually one of the closer schools to WSU. Travel already sucks and if the valley replaced eastward or northward that would suck even more. I guess there is always UN-Omaha  .
