That west side would be gross almost 2 different conferences.

But it's not a difficult flight from Detroit to most places. Adding the schools I mentioned would make travel easier and less expensive, I'd think.

I don't disagree with that.....I was just pointing out the inaccuracy in what the previous poster said.

A school that is only selling 3,000 tickets to their basketball games isn't likely to be flying their softball team anywhere.

Okay I misspoke about the nothern division but the southern regional closeness makes it more attractive than the east/west division.

I'll just agree to disagree.

To me, the east-west set up seems to involve less long trips than the north-south. In the east-west set up, Detroit-Evansville appears to the greatest distance.....and it's only 8 hours by car/bus. The north-south set-up has a couple of 12 hour trips (Omaha-Cleveland and Omaha-Detroit). Sure, teams can fly, and most do, but it seems clear to me that the east-west setup involves less overall distance.

I think an east / west split maintains more of the rivalry-type games as well.

If Cleveland St is the best we can do, we shouldn't do anything.

My thought on adding Cleveland State was it might be helpful in attracting Butler although I've seen some reports that Butler might be considered for a spot in a new Big East. I wouldn't consider adding Cleveland State without Butler, if that makes sense. Plus, if Dayton started looking should Xavier and Temple leave the A10, maybe having another school in Ohio becomes beneficial in adding the Flyers.

We're sort of stuck because of geography. AFA is maybe too far west, we're not adding the Dakotas, what in Texas or Arkansas adds value? Likely, we need to add to our east . A lot of things would have to happen for Butler to join the Valley. They're probably on the short list for the Big East and maybe even the A10 if they wanted.
