Funny, I thought Indiana State won. Odum had a great end of the season, but he wasn't FOY or a member of either all conference team. Young was. Odum might have had a better weekend in St Louis but not a better year.

Odum is not a better scorer than Young, plain and simple... Not that Odum can't score, it just wasn't his role on the team last season.

The thing people need to realize is Odum's numbers and what he brought to the Sycamores outside of the numbers were completely ignored by voters. For instance, Odum a freshman last year leads the league in steals and doesn't get voted as defensive player of the year. He played on an undersized team that was one of the best defensive teams in the Valley, how does he not get DPY?? He was second in the league in assists, again a number that was overlooked. He and Young are very similar players - I would have put Young ahead of Murry, but he is no better than Odum at this point.

If your not sure where the votes have come from maybe you should look at what Odum did for his team over the last 5 games of the season and then what he did in St. Louis - that was enough to convince voters that he was worthy. They are going to finish no worse than 3rd in the Valley according to most, if you finish no worse than that then Odum will have to have a big year and to finish in the top 3 and not have a first teamer (like last year) is an absolute slap in the face. Fact is, Odum was as good as McDermott last year - people just didn't realize it until they were driving home from St. Louis.

Well I didn't know that we were talking about last year. Last year is last year. They are picking Odum to have a better year and kudos to them. This isn't something to dwell about either, it's only preseason. He still has the entire season to prove to the voters that he deserves to be on the team, so don't get your panties in a wad yet. It's only preseason.

Odum isn't in the same paragraph as McDermott. This is getting to be crazy time here.

Obviously he didn't - he has no idea what Jake Odum does or did for the Sycamores last year. It's stupid to be even talking about last year at this point, obviously he is listed in the same paragraph as McDermott because he was voted on the same freaking team as him - so go ahead and get over the fact that he shouldn't be mentioned in the same paragraph as McDermott, because a bunch of nob bias voters just put him in the same paragraph.

Did you even see Odum play last year?

He was very unimpressive in both games against Creighton.

In the game at Creighton last year Odum had 22 points. He also had 9 assists in the game at Hulman Center. So you are saying he wasn't impressive?

Both of which were season highs. His head to head was actually pretty good - the one game at Creighton the Sycamores got blown out. The only guy who played well at that game was Odum. This conversation is so silly, I think he might be just trying to get us going :bounce: lol Usually works.

Odum had a career high at Creighton and the Sycs got blown out? Maybe Young played better.
