Bracketology 2013

I know it is early, but fun to see where some of the national "experts" seed the Valley teams.

Merged the link into here. Felt like using the fancy mod tools instead of deleting :D

Lots of respect for WSU and CU. I'd like to move up in seed, but with where my expectations were at the start of the season a 7 would be beyond my wildest imagination. CU as a 3, wow, a bit premature possibly, but that would be legit. When was the last time the Valley had a team seeded that high? Tatum's SIU was a 4 seed? Only other thing I could imagine that would make this better is if ISUr or UNI sneak in as an 11 or 12.
Thoughts and prayers to WSU finding a new conference.

Tennessee is god awful and Cuonzo will be lucky to survive after this season. A WSU win helps them, but their bosy of work is already enough to get a bid as long as the MVC season is adequate.

Hmmm, maybe I was looking at the football poll? Coupld have sworn it showed Tennessee at 4th.

They may have been picked 4th, but I don't think they are playing that way. The have scored 36 and 38 in their last two games respectively. Granted one of them was a 37-36 loss to Georgetown who is ranked 20th. Either way I can't imagine this is going to be a fun game to watch.

I'm still a month away from feeling reasonable about putting out brackets/bubble watches, but some trends to keep in mind in the next month or so:

1) Ye Gods, look what happened to the Colonial. George Mason is a 7-4, RPI 46, SoS 26, but it's all smoke and mirrors. Richmond is the only thing approaching a quality win. William & Mary is 6-3 against the 346th best schedule in the nation. And that's all they've got over .500 right now. Everyone is sub-200 RPI except Mason and Delaware. Old Dominion is 2-10, preseason favorite Drexel is 4-7 and in the tank, and half the conference has SoSs under 200.

2) The Mountain West streaked all the way to #2 in the CRPI, although I can't see it holding. The keys: Wyoming against a marginal schedule has gone undefeated, which at least limits the damage to the conference, and Boise and Air Force are putting up gaudy records. If things fall right, I could see 5 bids. There's enough quality wins to go around in conference play this year.

3) It's obviously early, but the A-10 has now parked 10 of their 15 teams inside the RPI Top 100. There's something brewing here. Computers should be nice to them this year.

4) This is going to be a pretty weak year for at large bids beyond the power 10 conferences (the usual 6, A-10, MWC, MVC, WCC). We'll obviously know more in February, but I don't see a resume resembling what Iona had last year surfacing anywhere. I don't think Belmont, Murray, SDSU, or anyone else has enough quality wins. I'll take the under on 0.5 bids right now.

Yeah SIU was a 4.

This is really starting to feel like a 2 bid year. CU and WSU getting away from everyone else. MVC might just have to take 2 really high seeds and be content this year. Whether that's a failure or success is up to you.

Illinois St is in trouble. They have @Wichita on the 16th. Win or lose, doesn't matter. But the other 8 games in their upcoming 9 game stretch, the SoS is weak enough such that they almost have to run the table in those 8 to have a legitimate chance now. And they're probably going to have to pick off one of @Creighton and @Wichita.

You're exactly right about it being a 2-man race... again. Illinois State has been disappointing to say the least. UNI is obviously up and down. Indiana State has shown glimpses of hope. Missouri State was proven to be one of the worst teams in Division I and is now sitting at 2-1 in the league. You have consistency in 2 teams and everything else is starting to turn to mush, with maybe the exception of Indiana State. They shouldn't be given too much heat with a loss in Omaha.

You'd have to wonder what the league would look like without WSU and CU in it. Would 8-6 be enough to win that league?
