It's nice to assume that you have lots of options, but perhaps that's not the case? Who really knows? So I give you an abbreviated look at School W and School Z (both private schools).

2012 Total Athletic Expenses
W: $26,020,596
Z: $10,578,710

2012 MBB Expenses
W: $2,512,912
Z: $2,213,543

4 Year MBB Avg. RPI
W: 142
Z: 67.5

4 Year MBB Avg. Sagarin Rating
W: 143
Z: 68

MBB Overall Win % in last four years
W: 60.98%
Z: 76.69%

NCAA Appearances in the last four years
W: 0
Z: 3

NCAA Appearances since 2000
W: 0
Z: 6

NCAA Appearances since 1990
W: 0*
Z: 6
*School W has never participated in the NCAA Tournament

2013 MBB Average Attendance
W: 5,460
Z: 2,012

Arena Capacity
W: 7,200
Z: 5,000

2013 MBB Percent of Capacity Filled
W: 75.83%
Z: 40.24%

I was wondering how that would stack up against Valley teams. So let's compare the numbers to Illinois State:

Valpo X
IlSU Y

2012 Total Athletic Expenses
X: $12,946,139
Y: $16,603,093

2010 MBB Expenses
X: $1,524,249
Y: $1,718,793

4 Year MBB Avg. RPI
X: 104.75
Y: 133.25

4 Year MBB Avg. Sagarin Rating
X: 115.50
Y: 116

MBB Overall Win % in last four years
X: 63.70%
Y: 55.72%

MBB Conf. Win % in last four years
X: 70.00%
Y: 50.00%

MBB NCAA Appearances in last four years
X: 1
Y: 0

MBB NIT Appearances in last four years
X: 1
Y: 2

MBB Conf. Tournament Championships in last four years
X: 1
Y: 0

MBB Conf. Regular Season Championships in last four years
X: 2
Y: 0

MBB Conf. Tournament Victories in last four years
X: 5
Y: 4

MBB Overall Win % Since 1989-90
X: 57.37%
Y: 55.6%

MBB NCAA Appearances Since 2000
X: 4
Y: 0

MBB NCAA Appearances Since 1990
X: 8
Y: 3

MBB NCAA Appearances Since 1980
X: 8
Y: 6

2012 Avg. MBB Reported Attendance
X: 3,164.25
Y: 4,783

2012 Percent of Capacity Filled
x: 63.29%
Y: 46.89%

I'm now convinced we should kick out Illinois State and add Valpo instead ;)

Where did you get your budget numbers from? I haven't seen our basketball budget, but the most recent number I saw for out athletic budget was much higher than that.

Whoops ... my fault. I copied Indiana State's athletic expenses from the USAToday database on accident. You're right, IlSU is much higher.

BB expenses are from here: http://money.cnn.com/2010/03/18/news/co ... l_profits/ ... which is actually from 2010. I'll edit in the fixed numbers.

Wichita State University $5,157,481 $3,798,648 $1,358,833

Best I can find for 2012 is only for NCAA tourney teams' expenses: (http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/morn ... seeds.html)
Creighton University $4,404,350
Wichita State University $4,644,724

Just looking at those numbers for WSU, that's very healthy financial growth, and that's a lot of money that can be spent on HCGM, assistants, and facility upgrades. I'm impressed by MoSt's finances as well (although I can't imagine those 2009 numbers are right).
