Creighton had a $375 million endowment, more than twice as much as the average of the other nine MVC schools. Loyola's endowment is now $389 million. Loyola has assets of $1.2 Billion and they average $159 Million in donations per year. They also average $10 Million per year on investments in dividends and interest. By comparison, Creighton had $853 million in assets, $64 million in donations.

$159 million yearly in donations and they can't buy a better coach than Porter Moser? Seriously? Academically it is a good school but definitely one of the more overrated in Chicagoland. I'm sure that they have potential but UMKC has potential too and nobody wanted them. The bottom line is that if this is as good as we can do, then we need to take a real close look at ourselves in the mirror because this addition is not congruent with what I see the Missouri Valley Conference as being representative of.

Cash wins and if Loyola is seeing an opportunity to invest in athletics with a jump to the MVC who is anyone to criticize. They have have a rich tradition and enough status to be able to compete imo. I think people are getting ahead of themselves with the news being official.

WSU is on an island so they won't be too upset with new additions. Flights are easy to book into Chicago.

No moves will make sense until they are all completed anyway. If Valpo wants to invest in athletics, UIC keeps making strides, and Loyola wants to be a player they are all capable. Would all three be added? Or can Belmont and Denver make a run? It'll be interesting to see the finale. Many new members RPI's may not be what you want but much of that is based on the conference you play in and attendance will increase for any added league member.

I am curious to know what Loyola offered to invest into for an invitation. Hopefully some details comes out with the official announcements. I could see many different budget increases and facility improvements in the package.

David Woods, Butler beat reporter, believes that Loyola and UIC are both off to the MVC.

https://twitter.com/DavidWoods007

At this point, until anything's official, who knows.

At this point, it appears that Loyola is probably in, and the door is still cracked open for UIC.[/quote]

If this were the case I would have to believe that another school would have to be coming along for the ride to get to 12. Maybe they stay at 11 and look to do some Western Expansion over the next couple years (UMKC, ORU, Denver) after The Valley has let them know what they are looking for in ORU and UMKC's case.

You hear some Valley fans just in awe and thinking there shouldn't be 4 Illinois schools in the MVC (UIC would make 5), I look at it differently. Chicago is really not Illinois or at least not Carbondale, Peoria, or Bloomington/Normal. The states population is at 12.8 million people roughly as of 2012, while the Chicago-land Metro area is 9.8 million people. I look at the PAC 12 and how they have 4 universities in California (UCLA, USC, Stanford, CAL) albeit California is the most populous state in the US at 38 million, while Illinois is 5th. But you have UCLA and USC centered around and in Los Angeles, and Stanford and California centered around San Francisco. Having 2 schools from Chicago suddenly doesn't seem all that far fetched.

Maybe The Valley is finally starting to look bigger and concentrate on some Metro area markets for the future. Look at the likes of Belmont (Nashville), Milwaukee, ORU (Tulsa), UMKC (Kansas City), Loyola and UIC(Chicago), and Denver. Those were pretty much the rumored candidates, with the exception of Valpo. Maybe the play is have the tradition of your current members in "college towns" blended with some bigger market institutions that can carry the conference into bigger and better future success (aka TV Contracts/Viewers). Maybe I'm reading to much into this conference realignment, but it doesn't seem like that unlikely a play if The Valley goes to 11 or 12 instead of just 10. Even if only 10, it seems as if Valley officials have been looking further down the road at schools that need to improve, but could be apart of The Valley's vision for the future.

Sorry for the rant, as maybe only Loyola or only UIC is added. However, this is fun to think about and hopefully in my opinion, a direction the conference is headed towards.

Maybe Loyola will incorrectly fill out the MVC application and then one of us can notify the NCAA and they can like be disqualified from the Valley or something. I mean it almost happened to Tiger Woods.

Also to sum up my research, Loyola might be the third most accomplished school in the country with the name Loyola behind the Hank Gathers school and some school in Maryland.

I like Loyola better than UIC or UMKC. I hope they can grow into the conference. I would have rather had 4 or 5 other schools. But I don't consider this a worse case situation. If UIC does join I hope we take a western school also. But I would think UIC,Loyola,Valpo may be most likely.

Possibilities for the third team to join with UIC and Loyola to bring us to 12:

Western Illinois
Eastern Illinois
Chicago State

WSU will be upset with any additions that risk damaging our RPI and the RPIs of our opponents to potentially put our ability to get an at-large bid at risk.

Adding teams that are barely capable of remaining in the top 300 RPIs does this.

You can say what you want about Loyola. I understand they are not a major player in the city of Chicago. However, they are IN the city of Chicago.

Many on here have complained about the MVC TV deal. If adding Loyola gets a better TV deal would it be considered a good move?

Its not the Loyla product that drives it...it is the guarantee that you are at least ON the chedule in all Chicago TV packages.

Look at the Big Ten. Did they add Rutgers because of their awesome football and basketball programs? No. But with Rutgers they now get their TV network on all NYC TV packages. Does anyone in NYC are about Rutgers? Of course not. But the #'s are what sell the TV package.

Loyola does bring that guaranteed market to the table on any negotiations with ESPN, Fox Sports 1, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, etc.

Loyola Marymount is joining the conference? That ain't too bad. They had an Elite 8 in the 90's.
