The $30 - $40 mill over 10 years has to be the gross advertising $$ that CBS thinks they can sell over that time frame.

Got to pay sales commissions, production costs, talent for broadcasting, and on and on out of that. All anyone can do is guess how much is left for WSU after the expenses.

This year (at least) the same groups will be producing media for the games (Cox for TV production, BGM Marketing for radio). It appears WSU has changed who sells the ads, promotes the broadcasts to additional outlets, etc. This group says they will sell more national advertising and intends to expand the markets for WSU sports.

I expect this will result in a significant increase in revenues from WSU broadcasts, but the actual increase over what WSU is getting now can only be guessed, and the best guesses are in the 1/4-1/2 mill range. Those are only guesses based on nothing but speculation.

But to be clear, this doesn't really have anything to do with the CBS College Sports channel, does it?

So....it's not really any different than any school that would sign a 10 year deal with Learfield Properties, or NeuLion, etc...?

Yep, you got that right. The local media in Wichita made this sound like more than it really is. Calling it a potential $30 - $40 mill deal over 10 years without mentioning that was the gross number was a bit disingenuous. Those numbers did not stand up to any level of evaluation.

Mark this day down. WSU fans are backing off of something and admitting something related to WSU basketball was overhyped.

So what is the final number that we will be netting off of this deal? Feel free to post an answer on my message board (not so subtle ploy to increase participation). Speculation, wild rumors, and scandalous claims are welcomed.

why is there a need to go to your board when there is a very active Shockernet board?

DrWu ain't too bright, boys...

If there is any extraordinary beneficial differences between this media deal and the deals that most other MVC schools have signed in the past, feel free to fill us in on those details. Until then, it appears that it was all the other schools that "set the standard for WSU to try and emulate".
