Is Doyle going to play for Loyola?

VCU over Red is the only hiccup I see right now.

I thought I read somewhere that Doyle is expected to be out for a while.

To be honest, none of us know what's going on with Doyle. There is some speculation that he will be out a couple of games, though.

Aside from having inside info, the only real way to find out about Loyola injuries is to listen to Moser's pregame interview on the radio.

You aren't joking about ODU. They are so bad. I hate to put a lot on the very first game but it's sort of a referendum on Paul Lusk as a head basketball coach. They are in year one of a new regime with retread Jeff Jones. We have a big size advantage and we need to take it to them. If we don't beat them then that says a heckuva lot more about us than it will about them.

I also call for 3-1 but I don't say that with a whole lot of conviction.

Sorry but there is no way to know that for sure until the games are played. I mean, look at the Bears last year and look at us this year. A lot can and does change in a single season. I think the Bears will have a good chance to win but with this game being on the road and them with a new coach and playing style, you just never know.

I agree. I expect a win. But being on the road so early in the season and the Bears with so many new players to integrate - you just never know.

Milwaukee is awful, Loyola will beat them.

The real question is whether Illinois State can stay within 40 of VCU...

I wonder how much the new fouling rules will affect VCU.

It should impact them tremendously. My guess is that it will not impact them very much. One of the problems I've had with officiating in the past was that teams that were known as great, aggressive defensive teams often were not scrutinized as closely as their opponent for 2 reasons:

1. They were known as great, aggressive defensive teams
2. Every play was a foul, and they couldn't call all of them, so they often just didn't call much.

It always boggled my mind when I looked at box scores of SIU games in the mid-2000s. Their guards would ride opponent guards 70 feet down the court the entire game. Often the opposing team would have more fouls.

I would certainly agree. I always thought that SIU's defense during that period was more atuned to football than to basketball.

The first four games feature teams who all believe they should be able to avoid Thursday. 3 of the four opponents are lower end teams, one is top 25 caliber. I'd love to think 3-1 is more than a reasonable expectation but I just have a feeling we may have to be happy with 2-2.
