The "Colt Ryan offense" was basically running screens forever until Ryan got an open look. The role of the front court guys was to set screen after screen after screen until Ryan got a shot. The same thing seems to be happening this year with Balentine.

I noticed in the thread on the UE board, that a lot of front court players have been leaving the program. Maybe the front court guys aren't happy with being role players who do nothing but sacrifice themselves to give another player awesome stats?

When the entire offense seems to be geared so that the big guys don't get touches, other than as an outlet to pass to a shooter, sometimes they are not happy.

Creighton could get away with building their game plan around a single player. They were winning a lot.

When a team is not winning a lot and a player's role is to set a screen, move, set a screen, and then repeat forever, that player may not be happy in that system.

Excellent analysis.

It's an excellent analysis whether Sawvell is leaving or not.

I wonder how long players like Ryan and Ballentine would last in a program that required them to set the screens. I was amazed that Sawvell, Mock, and Moore returned this year.

@ECP_Thomas 9m

According to a statement released by UE men's basketball team, Ryan Sawvell "has left the program and will move in a different direction."

Based on the article, Simmons doesn't seem to concerned.

The young team and lack size excuse is getting old. How many soph and junior bigs has he ran off? Johnson, House, Sawvell, Haarsma just to name a few. I thought last year was suppose to be "the year" for Marty. Colt was a senior and was his 6th year at the helm. NCAA? No. NIT? No. Pay 40k to play in some fifth tier tourney? Yes.
I predict Rokas will leave soon too as his playing time went from something his F year to nothing the past two. With him the fellow countryman will go as well. Martys record of keeping or even developing Bigs is pathetic.

Rokas was injured in an ATV accident and never fully recovered He probably should had sought a red shirt last year This year he has been plaque with back spasm from the accident and recently had an ACL injury He will red shirt this year most likely. Other players you mention except Sawvell went on to have lack luster careers at other school.

Sawvell chose to leave. The coach that had recruited him left his sophomore year and his pt went down If you can't man up to the situation then be a man and do what you need to do.

It's called growing
