Marty isn't going anywhere. With home games against Bradley, MoSt, and Drake still up, he's almost guaranteed a 20 win season this year. If they haven't fired him for past years, they won't fire him this year.

You don't have that guy for eight years and then fire him after his second best season.

This is who he is and this is what Evansville is and will be under him. And he'll keep scheduling weak, and Evansville fans will keep being tricked by a good win % in the noncon into thinking that this year they'll be something different. But they won't be.

Didn't some big time coach just say Marty was the best coach in the country at getting the most out of his talent? That'll buy him another decade.

Didn't they give him an extension a year or two ago?

UE has never published (or leaked) any details of Marty's contract. We have no idea.

His base salary is public but I'm unaware of the other terms of his contract. As a private school with one of the lowest enrollments in D-1 basketball, the school is never going to pay top dollar. The school is never going to make paying its coaches a priority. I don't know what the Drake, Loyola and Bradley coaches make, but the UE mission is different than most of The Valley schools.

Yes, it was on that coaches roundtable show hosted by Seth Davis that aired on BTN.

Lavin was up first, he offered Bo Ryan.

Turgeon second, offered Bill Self.

Dawkins third, offered Dana Altman and Leonard Hamilton.

Cuonzo last, "Marty Simmons of the Missouri Valley Conference". I literally yelled, "WHHAATTT!!!!" when I heard it.

I think we need to double check, but didn't CM say that right before MO ST played UE?
Coaches say some dumb stuff, but that was right up there. Usually when they say things like that, there are ulterior motives.

The show he said it on aired about two weeks ago (he wore a yellow California shirt).

He may have said that years ago as well like you mentioned, but I think the people in this thread were referencing the TV episode a couple weeks back.

I understand that he said it recently. I assumed he might say something like that to help a friend, assuming him and Lusk are friends.

I would allow Simmons to finish out the season and then relieve him of his duties. I would go for a relatively big splash for Evansville and offer Calbert Cheaney the position. He is an Evansville native, an IU All-American, and an NBA veteran......would definitely be a splash hire. He has been working under Jim Crews at SLU the past couple of seasons to gain that bench experience. I don't think he would command that large of a dollar figure to come home. Being a smart guy, I think he probably has plenty of money to his name from his NBA years.

I'm a big FSU fan, and I completely disagree with Leonard Hamilton as well. He's a pretty good coach, but ultimately his teams are turnover machines who regularly crap the bed in the noncon and only truly get up for games against Duke/UNC.

He'd be a good MVC coach.

Turgeon sucking up to Self is ridiculous as well. I'm okay with Ryan and Altman.
