Drake beats UIC 83-62.

23 for Abrahamson and 23 for Timmer. CJ RIvers with 13 rebounds and Woodward with 8 assists.

Drake didn't play great, but did what they needed to do.

Shockers really getting thumped by Iowa. Who would have thought this would happen at the start of the season? Some may delight in their early season woes but I feel bad for them. IMO it's all related to injuries. If they get everyone back I think they go back to being a very good team.

If Grady can't make it back I think that will hurt them though. Based on the games I've seen I don't think Wamukota or Nurger are ready for prime time. They are serviceable but just don't give the inside presence needed. Even without Grady if everyone else is healthy I think they have enough to win the MVC.

Tough stretch for WSU for sure. Take away FVV and Grady and any team is going to suffer. Return them to the mix and then add Frankamp and this team is probably exactly what everyone figured when they were voted a preseason top 10 team.

Also missing Shamet who was the 3rd leading scorer before he got hurt and looked to be the best freshman by far. That's 4 of what most likely would be the Top 6 players missing. Not many teams would win games like that.

I agree, this is getting brutal. However, whichever writer or poster it was that joked about the Shockers 2nd team being capable of placing 2nd in the Valley was a bit mistaken.

Agreed, the freshmen are talented... But they are freshmen, they can't do it alone.

That was a statement made by a cynical columnist at the Wichita Eagle. I don't think anybody except for himself took him too seriously.

Injuries are a part of the game. Being four men down sure doesn't help though.
