I have a feeling Carbondale is about to get bent over.

Maybe they'll be okay. The guy who was recently forced out seemed very pro-Edwardsville. I just don't understand how Carbondale got in this mess while Edwardsville is seemingly thriving. Assuming they're willing to wait that long there could be a lot riding on this basketball season because Carbondale desperately needs new revenue streams. The Salukis need a deep tournament run in the worst way. For their sake I hope they get it. Basketball has saved universities before it can do it again.

If Edwardsville gets all the medical programs it will significantly hurt Carbondale. Their already shrinking enrollment will significantly shrink even more. Also, Edwardsville being close to a "big" city is going to be help and Edwardsville now being in D1 sports will help. I just don't see how Carbondale survives as more than a D2, 10,000 enrollment satellite campus as a best case scenario (in 20 years) because they are losing some of their main programs, already seen a significant drop in enrollment, the athletic department is already in financial peril, and the university is in the middle of nowhere. Nothing about the SIU-Carbondale situation seems to scream they're going to recover from this if the medical programs do end up switching to Edwardsville. Not even a run to the Final Four. It would more likely be a farewell tour.

On December 1st SIU-C will play at SIU-E. Maybe it's just me, but I don't get it. It's a road game at an extension campus and a potential RPI (or any other metric) killer. Just seems dumb.

This isn't anything new. They play this game every year and take turns hosting.
