Aces are hosting Belmont on Sunday October 28 in a closed scrimmage. On Saturday November 3 New Mexico Highlands (DII) will come to Evansville for an exhibition game. NMH is coached by former Ace Craig Snow. Snow was a starter on Evansville's only MVC championship team during the 1999-2000 season.

It's one exhibition against an above average DIII team but the offense for UNI was totally different than it has been in the last couple of years. No more throwing the ball inside and watching all movement stop. No more 6-7 kid taking 22 jab steps on the perimeter and then taking a bad shot.

Pickford is practicing again and, if all goes well, will play on Thursday night. Phyfe has some fairly significant health issues going on and it may be a while before we see him if we see him at all this year or in the future.

Pretty good DII team (Upper Iowa) for the 2nd exhibition game on Thursday night. We'll see if it continues to improve.

Tonight, the Redbirds host Lewis University in the first of two exhibitions.

The Birds will be thin, only having eight players available. Sr. Keyshawn Evans and So. Taylor Bruninga will be sidelined with injuries while Milik Yarbrough will be held out as well.

The eight players include an experienced walk-on (So. Ike Gassman), three transfers (WO-So. Matt Chastain, Jr. Zach Copeland, and Jr. Josh Jefferson), a true Fr (Rey Idowu) and three returners (Sr. Phil Fayne, Sr. Boogie Tinsley, Jr. Matt Hein.)

I'll be surprised if it's not a close one in Normal tonight.

I would hope 8 healthy D1 scholarship players don't struggle too much with a roster of D2 players. I understand the playbook will be pretty generic, but I would be disappointed if it's not in hand early in the second half.

If you ask certain Redbird fans, they might suggest there are two players of the eight that are not D1 caliber. So if you listen to those people it would be six D1 players and two D2 players against a team of D2 players that returns its core. I could be wrong expecting a close game. I hope I am.

No question Hein isn't. But, his daddy is rich and he's dating a popular local politician daughter so.............
Really, no argument to say that he is if you've actually seen him play. He just flat out isn't he's just a recipient of circumstance. Let's be honest. If it wasn't for the first N'Diyae he never would have made it to ISU in the first place.

I tend to laugh every time I hear this. Do these people know how many D1 schools/scholarships are available?

About 4,600 D1 basketball players at any given time. Divided by 50 states and that's 92. But, not 92 per year, per state. 92 per state in a 4-year period. So, 23 per year, per state. That's not that much. Yes, Alaska will only get 1 but California will take their other 22. About 1,150 players get a D1 scholarship per year. There is an estimated 65,100 high schools in the United States. That's 1 D1 basketball player for every 56 high schools. Matt Hein got one of those........really?
