This is one of the reasons I think you take your expansion obsession too far. Belmont is simply not MVC worthy. Yes, they have had some solid teams over the last decade..but..they have no fans.

Have you ever been to Nashville? They have a very large SEC school there that gets most of the attention. After that, there is a very large SEC school about 150 miles to the east that gets a lot of attention. You also have Middle Tennessee, Austin Peay, Lipscomb, Tennessee State and even Western Kentucky feeding off of that media market. Simply put, even with some recent success, NO ONE in Nashville gives a flying hoot about Belmont, or even mid-major basketball. SEC Football, followed by SEC Basketball is all that matters.

Look at the OVC Tournament. Three schools within 40 miles of Nashville, and they couldn't get 500 people there if Murray wasn't playing. Belmont made the OVC finals last year, and couldn't fill a corner section just two hours away, while Murray traveled farther, and filled the remainder of the lower bowl. They ignore the OVC with three schools there, they will certainly ignore the MVC as well.

There has to be more than just a few NCAA Tournament appearances to be a good fit, and you don't seem to understand that. If the rumor is true, and it really is just a rumor that Belmont turned the MVC down, doesn't that tell you they lack the commitment this league needs to improve. Why would you ever want a school that appears to be unsure about moving up in conferences? Personally, I doubt there has ever been anything more than a possible phone call, but believe what you want. Regardless of how far anything has gone, they are not a good fit. Go read their message board if you don't believe me...............

Yep, fully agree with the previous post about Belmont.

Only Murray and Belmont seem to put basketball first in the OVC and it shows. But Rick Byrd isn't getting any younger and I'm not convinced that when he retires the Belmont administration will go all-in to keep the program at the level Byrd got it to. And if you look at the record, even Byrd had his share of lean years early in his career.

On the other hand, Murray wins regardless of head coach. I can see why at least fans of the MVC would like to see them join. I don't see Belmont having the same pedigree or interest in moving (how many Belmont fans have you seen on this board?) and would as soon see the focus go somewhere else for that elusive "No. 12."

As for the OVC, lop off the bottom three or four schools and the Ohio Valley isn't a bad league. Problem is too many are football wannabes and don't really care about basketball. So year after year they go 8-22, with the occasional 16-14. Then back to 8-22.

I totally get what you're saying but this specific post was meant to be a joke playing on a Vince Gill song title and the fact that he's supposedly a huge Belmont fan.

The OVC honestly isn't a bad league. I'm an Indiana State fan, but I also attend almost all of Eastern Illinois' home games in football, men's basketball, and baseball. (I was actually pretty excited when EIU beat Bradley.)

I tend to agree that most of the OVC's schools care more about football, than basketball. EIU definitely does. Murray State on the other hand is definitely basketball first.

The big thing with the OVC is that most of the schools in it have a very small athletic budget, but most of them want to have football, and I don't have a problem with that. The OVC schools draw way better for football, than they ever will for basketball.

In the last 16 years Belmont has gone to the NCAA tournament 7 times and NIT 4 times not too bad.
Since 1988 Murray State has been to the NCAA tounament 14 times and NIT 6 times.

Murray State falls just short of knocking off #7 Auburn, 93-88.

With 2 top 60 NET teams and Belmont engineering the firing of a blueblood out west, the OVC is seeing an increase in media notoriety.

LIBERTY caused Alford's firing not Belmont. In addition the top two teams in Liberty's conference the ASun have higher NET ratings than either Murray State or Belmont so by your logic ASun>OVC. Yet the MVC has a much higher rating than both of them. Calm down.

Did the OVC have two of the top 3 plays on Sportcenter and a moment that made ESPN's top page as well as a double overtime thriller and have a game end on a half court buzzer beater? I don't think so Welcome to the
