Mullins was going to be named SIU’s coach last year IF Hinson was let go, but Hinson wiggled off the hook and got another chance . With a new AD in place not sure Mullins will be the choice should Hinson be fired. Kill may go a different direction he has stated he prefers hiring a coaches with previous head coaching experience. Hoping for the best possible hire IF a change is made . Still think Hinson will be here for years to come. he knows how to manipulate the influential boosters.

7 years of no post season play is enough. Winning conference will not mean much so it's MVC tourney champs or bust. We'll see what happens.

If they win the regular season title (something that Hinson has never done in 15 years of coaching in the Valley) that would be enough for a NIT berth. I can’t imagine that SIU would fire Hinson in that case. I agree with you that it should be a NCAA tournament or bust in year 7. Let’s see if Hinson can pull a rabbit out of his ass.

I assume "making the postseason" means an NCAA sponsored tournament like the NCAA or NIT and not a tournament you have to pay to get into like the CBI or CIT right?

yes either NCAA or NIT not sure making the NIT will be enough. Fan Base is feed up with Hinson’s crap . Of course one of the biggest SIU supporters has saved his ass lately. Hopefully for an NCAA berth but very doubtful Hinson will get it done

So the improved scheduling this year isn't necessarily evidence that he finally gets it?

No he would have played his typical crappy schedule but was told by SIU’s AD that he had to improve the schedule and even then Kill wasn’t totally happy with it . Then he acted like it was the best schedule in school history which it wasn’ not even close . He is not what he seems from a far. Fellow fan bases love him, either because he is no threat to them or they bye his bullshit. You have to give him props for being able to be a Division 1 coach for 17 years and never reaching the Big Dance.

He did coach at Manchester (IN) to start his coaching career, but I doubt we see him at Valpo. It’d be an improvement but I’m not sure Valpo is ready to write off Lottich quite yet. He’ll get this year and next before any real descisions will be made.

It will take Alford quite some time to soothe his ego to consider getting back into coaching. I look for him to follow Steve Lavin into the broadcast booth.

I don't see any Valley openings this season, unless someone gets poached. Barry may be on a slightly warm seat, but I think SIU will perform well enough to keep him employed.

Seat, slightly warm? Are you actually on this message board? They have wanted him out of little Egypt for a long time. I was talking to SIU fans in St. Louis the first season with Barry on the bench. They were ready to send him packing, and offering a trade for Paul Lusk... I said I would have made that deal at the time. Not saying that Barry is great, but he sure isn't Lusk.

7 years isn't that bad, heck Evansville held onto Simmons for 11 years. And we only had 1 sniff
of a post season bid.
