1. Best player on (currently) best team
2. FG% and assist to turnover ratio are much higher for how close their points and assists are in conference play
3. Overall efficiency (advanced stats love Krut, only player close is McGlynn)
4. Reputation, let’s face it the MVC would prefer a player to win that has not been arrested multiple times

There’s a few reasons for you. MY is a great player and if the birds go on a tear this could all change (except for point 4), but if you think it’s just going to be based off of points and assists I really doubt you are going to be correct

Krutwig draws a lot of attention that makes everyone else better. That is a big factor to consider.

Milik Yarbrough is by far the best player in the MVC. He may not win the POY award, but he's the best player. Frankly, it's not close.

I just looked up his assist to turnover number and it is 1.318. That is an astonishing number for his situation. In contrast Fayne sits at .514, Sorolla .50 and Smits .40. I'm impressed!

With Norton gone Webster now has the lead for this category with 3.179 to 1. Yarbrough is at .889 which is about average for his position and heavy scoring responsibilities.

The number for AJ Green really jumps out at me. 50 assists vs 67 TOs for .746 is REALLY BAD for any guard, any time and anywhere. I realize his supporting cast is weak but that argument has its limits.

The only things that hurt Krutwig in my opinion are:
1. He's only a sophomore, I know VanVleet and McDermott won as sophomores but it traditionally goes to a junior/senior
2. Playing with Townes may split the vote some. Townes has been on a tear in conference.

Watching AJ Green against Bradley the other night, he was clearly one of the best scorers on the floor. He did have a tendency to force his shot at times, but he's talented and will only get better.

Malik Yarbrough can't be depended on to stay out of jail long enough to collect his award. Yes, the truth hurts.

Banish him to the 2nd team.

Agreed, he's done a much better job with not forcing things as the year has gone on. He's not pulling up from 30 feet anymore, lol. That part of his game will come but I'm not sure the league has seen a freshman this talented in a while. Going to be the first freshman to average 15 in 21 years.

Wardle might have called the greatest timeout in history to get back to back media timeouts at the beginning of the second half after AJ had gone on a personal 8-0 run.

Milton Doyle averaged 14.9 as a freshman; AJ Green actually kinda reminds me of Doyle’s early years and their numbers are super similar. Though I think his supporting cast is much better as a freshman and should help him develop a lot faster.

Basketball is more than just how many points you average. Defense, steals, offensive efficiency, rebounds, assist to turnover ratio, FT%, all matter too. Yes, he is averaging 15 points a game but he is only shooting 33.8% from 3 and only 40% overall from the field.

Javon Freeman Liberty is averaging 11 points per game but is far more efficient offensively to get his points. He is shooting 47.4% from the floor for a guard, is a better defender, has more steals, is a better rebounder, and has a better assist to turnover ratio. Other than averaging 4 more points per game (in a far less efficient manner), the only other category Green is better than him at is FT% (lots better) and 3pt% (3.5% better).

Sorry, but Green is not the most well rounded freshman this year. Although the caveat to all this is I think maybe Freeman started playing more consistent before MVC play and maybe Green has been lighting it up more lately. That I am not sure about because I don't follow close enough attention.
