And what's up with that Loyola mess? It sounds like a sloppy intermission opus from an off-Broadway flop.

Not sure if it is necessarily my favorite, but I ALWAYS get UNI’s fight song stuck in my head. It’s catchy.

Sir Sci wrote:Here's my first bias: if you don't have a good marching band or pep band that can play it with gusto, then it doesn't matter how good the words are or catchy the melody is.

On that basis, the best fight songs are UNI, Illinois State, and Missouri State. SIU is below those, but in the same territory.

My second bias: I was in Missouri State's marching band for four years. There's no way I can pick anything that beauty of a fight song.

UPHOLD TRADITION!

Breathing new life into this thread to say:

1. I'm glad that, at least as of me looking at it right now, Illinois State, UNI, and Missouri State are, in fact, the top three vote getters (in that order).
2. Lol, Loyola hasn't even received one vote, even from their own fans.

I thought it was very sad to see Valpo had all of 12 people in their "band". Loyolas wasn't great but looked huge in comparison.

At MSU we are lucky to have had a GREAT school band for many years. I was worried it might trend down when our long time band director (Jerry Hoover) retired a couple of years ago. But so far that hasn't been the case. The band definitely makes a difference in atmosphere at games and how good a school's fight song sounds.

In the early years at Arch Madness, Tulsa, Creighton, and UNI would not even have a band. Some had token bands (like Valpo this year) but MSU, SIU, BU, and ISUR always took it seriously.

Most of these sounded like I should be hearing them walking down Main St at Disney. Our favorite was UNI. Then MoSt, then Bradley.
Fun thread. Thanks for posting.
