Yaklich would be a really good hire for ISUr. Really good. I am shocked he doesn't already have a head coaching job. Maybe (and hopefully) that will change soon. As I understand he was the driving force behind that 2016-2017 team that was so good and narrowly missed the tournament. Didn't Muller give another assistant to Michigan too? If memory serves he let two walk to the Wolverines. What was the other guy's name?

Sadly, Lansing's contract at ISU runs through 2021, so unless we find about $250k we're stuck with another losing season in Terre Haute. I'd imagine our AD has a short list of potential new coaches for INS.

How funny would it be if THEY get Yaklich? Coaches with Valley roots seem to like to come home. That'll spice up that rivalry and solve ISUb's apparent lack of a true rival (mentioned by a Sycamore poster in another thread) at least for a few years.

Is the Indiana State AD still Greg Lansing's wife?

No offense to those schools but if ISUb or Valpo won't buy out one year of a lame duck coach, that doesn't bode well for how they can compete in the Valley. Neither of them will have a lot of luck on the recruiting trail with no future job security. Even Loyola bought out the final year of Whitesell (the coach before Moser) back when they were pinching pennies in the Horizon League.

Personally, I don't think Valpo escapes Thursday, so if I'm them, I think you have to eat that final year of Lottich's contract and go back to Bryce. He'll be looking to get back into coaching after a year of doing nothing. The Drew family looms large at that school. Plus, he won't be unemployed for long. Gotta strike while the iron's hot.

As for ISUb, they should offer Lansing a 3 year extension with like a $5k buyout for those 3 years. It doesn't tie up financial resources long term and at least doesn't completely tie his hands in recruiting and tank next year or the year after. I think he's an OK coach, although the program seems to be in neutral at best.

As for Yaklich, I think he would be a great HC at any school in the Valley. I'm surprised Evansville didn't leave Seltzer as interim for the rest of the year and try to make a run at Yak in March. The interesting thing about Yaklich is he might be completely out of a job at Texas if Shaka Smart gets fired. Also, I could see him picking up a HC job in the MAC or Horizon. NIU probably opens up after this year, he'd win there.

I know Seltzer was a LU assistant and the most experienced assistant coach on the staff, but he was in a no win situation at UE. He had no history (5 months) with the players and did not have the team's best player available to play.
Lickliter had a good history and rapport with the players and I suspect with the 2 younger assistant coaches from being here last season. He would have been sitting on the bench this season if not for a bad medical situation that occurred this past summer.

Fans are funny. What kind of coach do they think is walking through that door in Terre Haute? He has the best record of any coach since Bill Hodges.

I will reply to my own post.

Sycs are down 33-30 at home to a Bradley team with six scholarship players, no Brown, no Child’s and Tahvenainen scratched before the game. Lose this one and oh boy.

Unfortunately, I think this season's probably a lost cause right now. Lickliter is most certainly the best coach to maximize/salvage whatever is left with this year's team, but UE needs to start fresh. A 2 year contract doesn't help that. Lickliter's health and long-term status will be a concern on the recruiting trail.

A name bandied around the board is David Ragland as an associate head coach/HCIW at Evansville. Other than the whole premise of a designated head coach in waiting, it's not a bad idea to bring him in and try to groom him as Lickliter's replacement. At least it could guarantee some stability for the program. You might even try this with Yaklich, especially if he's looking for a job in March.

It really is a shame what's happening down there. Obviously, it sucks if other people outside were hurt by his actions, but it looked like McCarty would have built a program that would have been a force in the Valley.
