To say we played bad the first 15 minutes would be an insult to bad basketball everywhere. I thought Jones and Taylor really played well for us tonight. Harris had a big game, he was running the floor very well the 2nd half. Ugly win, but a very big win for us. I was very impressed with Odum for ISU, didn't realize til after the game he was a freshman, that kid has a LOT of potential.

Odum is a red shirt freshman as are Mahurin and the Eitel brothers. So except for game time, they have as much practice time as sophomores. Nevertheless, he is going to be a very good player for ISU. Also, on Feb 11 he will be 20, so he has age over most freshmen.

Watching the replay of this game.....ISUB fans are delusional if they think anything better than .500 is possible. This is NOT a good team and they are not well coached. Maybe this is what the Valley has come to, but the Trees are not any better than any other year.

Sure, if they shoot well they have a chance against some teams, but there are a ton of problems here. Maybe they"ll finish ahead of Drake, but I don't think so.....battle for 7th is going to be fierce.

I have to think ISUR is better than this.

ISU had a 17 pt. lead on the Aces UNTIL our resident hotshot(Lathan)decided he wanted to start putting his head down and driving the lane and turning the ball over. He would eventually be credited with 8, count em', 8 @%^&$* T.O.'s. ISU's offensive rhythm was completely destroyed.

He did the same #$^&@* thing in the game vs Purdue. ISU was playing toe to toe with them…….until Latham started his selfish play.

Lansing needs to sit Lathan's ass on the bench until he learns there is no "I" in team.

Jake Odum should start getting some recognition as a viable FOY candidate.

There is a step in right direction to stay out of Thursday game. UE must beat ISU-R, SIU, BU and Drake at home. That is 5 wins(counting ISU-B). Then upset one or two of the others at home. And beat two of the above teams on the road. 8-10, 9-9 will get them a 4th-6th place finish. It's that simple.

UE didn't shoot the ball well and still came out with the win. Anybody that says Colt is just a shooter doesn't watch the games too closely. He was very good last night in all aspects. Problem is in the half court set, if Colt doesn't touch the ball then the offense stalls. Harris is much better in the open court. We have to get somebody that is looking to score in half court sets outside of Colt. It would be nice to have a PG that can shoot so the defense doesn't have to sag off him so he can drive to the basket. Cox doesn't look to shoot as much as he should. Jones isn't shy at taking the ball to the basket but he is just undesized. Hopf does a good job with up and unders and getting good position on his defender. But we need a real threat to score. Colt can not be our only option in the half court set. Marty was yelling to push the ball when we got any chance we got.

UNI 0-2 and we go to their place, I'm sure they will be in a foul mood. They play tough D and like to shoot the 3 ball. They usually play a stlye that does not blow teams out. Hopefully, we can keep it close and take our chances down the stretch.

I totally agree with 82 on the need for more offensive threats than Colt. Last night he was constantly shadowed by Carter whose only job was to stay in his face. The result was no FGs for Ryan in the first half. I didn't see the WSU game, but other teams have defensed Ryan effectively this way. When the main scoring threat comes from just him, you face guard him the entire game. Ryan is such a good (smart) player that he will eventually get his points and usually rescue the team, but defenses in the Valley will put a stop to this.

ISU set their defense in the paint to take away any inside game we had and it was pretty effective. Harris was able to get his points mostly in transition before the defense set up. If we had someone else who would take the open 3 (Holmes, Cox, Jones) it would change everything. All three are very capable but hesitate just long enough for the defense to recover. Jones hit 48% from beyond the arc in HS so he is capable but is not productive at the forward spot without the shot. The defense must respect his jumper.

Cox should be running the point which I think he will do next year. He is a good shooter who is very athletic on the drive. Right now we get almost no production from 10-15 feet at the point.

Ever notice how there is always that one player that has a career night against UE? That's because our help defense has to decide who not to guard. At this level of play, when you leave someone open they score. After all they were probably their HS leading scorer. With UE it doesn't happen. We need to make this happen with the other four players on the floor.

Just my two cents!

OMG, I don't care HOW BAD the Valley is as a whole, there is NO WAY the Aces are going 8-10 or 9-9 unless a nuclear bomb takes out 3 or 4 schools in the next week or so.

I agree with 71, Ned Cox should be running the point. He might be the most complete player on the Aces roster.

A nuclear bomb, really, so you're saying there IS a chance?!?!!!? I smell a bet.....'82 will probably lay pretty good odds, ya know, since he doesn't pay.......sorry, just couldn't resist

Since you have maybe seen 3 games(UNC, WSU, ISU-B) maybe, that is if you stuck with the UNC game and actually watched all the ISU-B game. How many games do you think UE can win? 8 is not out of the question. On the other hand 4 is not out of the question. Again, it's not how good the Aces are but how bad the bottom of the league is(5-10). To say NO WAY is a little far fetched.
