Did some digging. Matt Brown never said any of this. The "quote" stating, "As we get to the end of December, it appears UIC is "done deal"; with UMKC on the outside looking in and still TBD on UTA & Murray State" was from a poster called "Collegiate Consulting" in a reply to Matt Brown.

Thanks for finding that. I have my suspicions that some of the rumors we are starting to hear are just some anti-Murray, SIU fans grasping for straws.

I think if UTA and UIC are the two adds, without Murray State that Missouri State will be even more tempted to go FBS.

That’s entirely where the “Murray was rejected” rumors are coming from. Matt Brown himself has heard nothing of the sort, and he’s been the only reliable source through every step of MVC expansion.

The MVCF voted and it was not close. The source is me because it happened.

Was this an informal vote or was it at a conference meeting? I feel petty for asking that, but seems like there should be some sort of record or any info on this vote taking place other than one guy saying it happened and that he is the source.
Not disputing that it happened, I just think it is something that some type of media would have covered or at least mentioned.

Now on the topic. When it was being reported Murray being added was a done deal. MVCF had a zoom conference. The result was Murray did not have the support to receive an invitation. It is a fact and I could care less who wants to dispute it. That comes from as good a source as I can get.

I have repeatedly said we are guessing UTA and UIC are the adds. I can’t confirm they are only going to 12 but the guy who told me was pretty confident and usually very reliable.

UIC is getting an invite. The TV contract gets crushed without Chicago. I can say with 99% confidence that is done.

I know of two hard no’s on Murray so unless they can sweep the other 7 it’s a no go.


The commissioner has been banging the drum for UTA since he got the job. Hence if they only go to 12 it will be UTA and UIC.

If MVFC was just a sport within the valley, this would be easy. Valley division and affiliate division. But as a separate conference those “affiliate” teams have a real voice. UNI and MSU must continue to refuse to be in a division with the four Dakota schools. It’s not fair from a competitive or geographic standpoint.

People are going to pee on this idea, but why not at least mention it. It might solve the football problem for UNI and Missouri State...
Split the conference into 3 divisions with 4 teams each.
East: Indiana St., Murray St., S. Illinois, Youngstown St.
Central: Illinois St., Missouri St., N. Iowa, W. Illinois
West: All 4 Dakota Schools

Reduce the conference schedule from 8 games to 7 games, with a bye week given to each team during the final 3 weeks. During those final 3 weeks, each team will play 2 games (1 at home and 1 on the road) against the teams finishing in the same position from the other 2 divisions.

The Eastern Schools might have to get on a plane an extra time and that's like trying to get a toddler to wear a coat over their Halloween costume. They also seem to have no clue how far away the Dakotas are, even from Cedar Falls.

I'll say it again. Jeff Jackson isn't the one that initiated the interest in Arlington. That was Elgin at the direction of the presidents. Matt Brown had all the emails from an FOIA request.

There's also been no MVFC vote on Murray. That's simply bullshit that one guy won't quit banging the drum on. No need to vote until the Valley makes a move or we know what's happening with the OVC/Southland partnership.
