He was really raw coming in, made huge strides toward the end of 2020-21 season and then needed knee surgery just before last season began. He'll give Drake the rim protector they didn't have last season. Burns is 6'5", long, athletic, has guard skills and can shoot the 3. He played limited minutes in 2020-21, then redshirted last season. Like Samake, his upside is enormous, but he has yet to show that he can do these things consistently.

Completely forgot to mention Sardaar Calhoun, 6'5" senior wing. Played two years of juco ball where he was a first team All-American, had multiple P5 offers. He went to Florida State out of juco, where he was 6th or 7th man on a Sweet 16 team. Then he transferred to Texas Tech; and then transferred to Drake at semester last year. He'll have one year remaining. Potential big time scorer.

You'd think Calhoun would push for a starting role but it might be tough to wedge him in (good problem) if Wilkins is healthy ... unless Sturtz returns to a 6th man role?

Penn
Wilkins
Calhoun
Tucker
Samake

Sturtz and Brodie first off bench?

Seems reasonable to me. Sturtz always seemed to fit better coming off the bench (still playing starters minutes) to me.

Yeah, I think Sturtz probably returns to his suber-sub role. Bulldogs just have a ton of experience returning. They lost Murphy & Hemphill, who started more than 140 games between them, but they still have 5 guys returning who have all started at least one season's worth of games or more.

I think Calhoun is just too good not to start. Michael Admire, Drake's PBP guy, recently posted a really interesting (if long) interview with Calhoun. If he plays as well as he interviews, he'll be really good. And, the young man certainly doesn't lack for confidence. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/d ... 0569521117

I'm okay with Drake being rated that low, they didn't have many spots to fill, so it was a small class.

If you count guys who redshirted last season, Drake has several more "newcomers"

SIU has two promising players who redshirted last year in 6-5 Foster Wonders and 6-10 Scottie Ebube.
Wonders was runner up Mr. Michigan Basketball, and Ebube, at 265 lb. and very athletic, is a load.
