Teams need to get things done before January. If the whole conference didn’t suck in December, who knows where Bradley and Drake’s chances would be for an at large.

This right here. The whole conference was terrible in the non-conf. Win some more games there so we aren't the 15th placed league or whatever, and we could be talking at large for both Drake and Bradley. Especially Bradley could have used the "Reink Mast" was hurt and went 3-3 without him and has gone 18-5 since.

Unfortunately, I think the transfer portal just adds a ton of variability in what a team looks like in November and December versus January, February and March. Coaches are trying to figure out rotations and what they have.

The good news is that cuts both ways. If a P5 or other good mid-major has hit the transfer portal hard, MVC teams with continuity from the previous year can have a real advantage.

We we’re actually in a decent spot around December 1 if I remember right and then the whole conference basically s*** the bed.

That would have been just about the time when there is plenty of film on the teams that rebuilt their rosters.
