Watching BIG 10 tournament. Schweiger and Davis start for some of these squads for sure. I wonder if benches at these schools get re arranged and some P4 kids trickle back to the valley. Or is it just permanently double A baseball developing kids for the major leagues? Repetitive questions, I know. Wild west out there. Just wonder what percentage of fans kind of tune alot of it out going forward... is it that exciting to see Kentucky vs Duke anymore?

The competition isn’t Indiana, Butler or NC State. It’s Bradley, UNI and Murray State.

And if Valpo is so poor they can’t compete within the league then it’s time to get out.

I'm a pretty big valpo defender simply because, on an institutional level, in spite of financial issues, I have absolutely zero issue with Illinois state being associated with a school like Valparaiso, or any school in this conference for that matter. People here wanted grand canyon in the league and I'm snobby enough to not want to associate with a for profit university, even if basketball is a little worse.

BUT... man it does feel like on the court they really struggle to do what it takes to be competitive in this league. It's not like 'we can't compete with power programs' heck none of us can, but they can't compete with valley schools. Hopefully they can figure stuff out and figure out how to get to a place where they can amend that, and Powell seems like a really good dude and I'm pulling for him.

They don’t have the NIL the other MVC schools have. Powell is working against bottom-of-league NIL, bottom-of-league facilities, and a school that’s in deep financial trouble. I don’t see a path for Valpo to the top of the MVC in the NIL era no matter the coach (I think their only path back to the NCAAT in the NIL era is in a less-resourced conference), so I think what Powell’s accomplished with player development (Schweiger, All Wright, etc) and his infectiously positive outlook on everything against all odds is admirable.
