DII to IU in two years would be a wild jump, but he seems like he has the chops. He'd need some big time recruiters with him, but he seems like a guy who surrounds himself with the right people.
In the past, one sticking point with mid/low major coaches moving to the high major level was "how much experience do you have recruiting at the high major level?"

With NIL, that's a non-issue. IU has one of the largest basketball NIL budgets in the sport, the recruiting will take care of itself.

And now Fran is reportedly out at Iowa. DeVries or McCollum have to be in the conversation.

All of the talks about how "hard" it would be for D2/D3 coaches to move up is all nonsense and a smoke screen to keep D1 coaches paid ridiculous amounts of money.

If it was known that you can pay a guy 200K a year instead of 800K a year the gig would be up for agents and the D1 world. The illusion has to be sustained and make no mistake, it's an illusion.

Are there some elite coaches who are much better than everyone else? Sure. But to think an MVC coach making 500K is way better than a good D2 coach making 100K - that's ridiculous.

Word around Iowa City is that they don't want to pay the buyout at West Virginia and give Darian big money so he may be off the table.

IMO, the list is McCollum, Jans, Wardle and Steve Forbes.

I disagree. We've seen plenty of guys struggle with recruiting after they jump. I do understand that NIL makes it a bit different, but it definitely doesn't take care of itself.

I'd argue it's more competitive than ever on the recruiting front at that level because you have to balance retaining your own guys, HS kids and portal guys. It's why those programs are adding GMs.

Would Jake ever make a move or too late for him?

It was too late for him to make a P4 move the moment that Texas A&M game was over in 2016.

He's a lifer here and that's a good thing for both sides.

Plus, he just singlehandedly raised $14M for a practice facility here (finally). I don't think he'd get all that done just to turn around and leave.

I don’t recall the politics and background behind the Iowa non conference round robin’s end. Would it be possible that it would get revived with either DeVries or McCollum being Iowa’s hire?
