Over! Les and Lowery are gone. Either Cuonzo or Marshall leaves.
Cuonzo isn't going anywhere. No school worth leaving for is going to offer him a job on the basis of one (or fewer) NCAA tournament appearances.
How many NCAA tournaments did Mark Turgeon take WSU to?
How many NCAA tourneys did Keno Davis take Drake to? How many NCAA tourney games did he win?
How many NCAA tourneys did Matt Painter take SIU to?

I'm not saying Martin is going anywhere, but it's not unusual for BCS teams to grab a coach who has only been to 1 NCAA tournament.
I don't disagree with the fact that BCS teams will grab a young coach, but I would say that unusual isn't the best word. In my opinion, it's not unheard of for a BCS team to grab a coach that has only been to one NCAA, but it is still somewhat rare and a little unusual. And if you look at the list you presented, Turgeon had one heck of a track record leading up to the Sweet 16, Keno was plugged into coaching circles with his father and really didn't go to a great BCS job and Painter played for Keady at Purdue. He was an intergal part of the Bruce Weber SIU success. Being a former Boilermaker player and remaining close to the Purdue coaching staff and administration, made him a comfortable choice.

Martin has all the same ties as Painter did, but the Boilermaker job isn't opening. At least not from what I've heard.

Under.

Les and BU will come to an agreement and CLo will be stuck at SIU for monetary reasons.

Marshall will find a way out before his team takes a dump (no offense WSU fans). This might be Marshall's best chance for a while.

UNI did not disappoint. We finished in 4th, despite a major injury, losing a ton of talent from last year, and losing out in the whole McDermott fiasco.

You can't win the title every year. This was a successful season for UNI, all things considered.

I wouldn't dispute that, but speaking from the standpoint of Jacobson getting a big job offer, the season did dissappoint. UNI fans should be okay with the way the season went but this isn't the season that garners the big promotion.

Why should this season stop Jacobsen from getting offers? Turgeon got his BCS promotion after a very lackluster season. If O'Rear stays healthy, they are probably at least third if not higher. If McDermott doesn't follow his dad to CU, they probably win their third title.

A down year just means that the BCS schools can come calling sooner after the season is over.

I could see CM or BJ going to any of the perennial struggling Big-10 teams to attempt to turn things around.

He could, but it is very unlikely. This is his first D-1 HC gig and although he went to the NCAA's twice, he is still relatively unknown. He also took over a program that McDermott built; when Jacobson took over, it wasn't a total rebuild.

Turgeon, on the other hand, was much better known than Jacobson is now. Not only did he play in four NCAA's, he cut his teeth as an assistant at Kansas was well connected with NCAA coaches and AD's nationally. I believe he also has some NBA coaching experience, I could be wrong, but I think he was an asstand coach or scout type of guy, I can't remember. He was a head coach at Jacksonville State for a couple years prior to Wichita State and he turned that program around. At Wichita State he did nothing but win. When he got there, Wichita State was a doormat. He put life into a dead program and over the course of seven years, each team compiled a better record than the previous year. One letdown was to be expected and easy to overlook. So Turgeon was successful at several levels, was a well known commodity and connected with the right people.

There is the difference. I think Jacobson is a great coach and will probably go on to a bigger program, but he is a lot tougher sell than Mark Turgeon was. In fact, Jacobson could be a better coach than Turgeon, head to head, right now, I don't know. But sometimes hiring the right guy and getting hired has a lot to do with luck, knowing the right people, being at the right place at the right time and being marketable to the fans. There is much more.
