I will answer the question from different perspectives:

Conference prestige: NCAA loss

University prestige: NCAA loss

Program prestige: NCAA loss

Coach's future: NCAA loss

Player ego: NCAA loss

Team reputation: NCAA loss

Team development: Several NIT wins

Player development: Several NIT wins

Next year prepardeness: Several NIT wins
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

A series of lower tourney wins can certainly elevate a team going into the offseason, but probably only if reaching the NCAA tourney was not realistic. Will WSU or MSU improve because of this experience? I doubt it because it was such a letdown to be there in the first place. I think some fans have made the claim that they'd rather have their team win a couple of NIT games in the past, but I won't name names.

Whether WSU has improved or not, the 2 NIT wins has been good for the team. I think they improved, or at least, played the way that they are capable of playing. You get the noteriety from playing in the NCAA, but in my mind, reaching the final four of the NIT is as good as getting blown out by double digits in the first round of the NCAA (and the play-in round is not the first round, it is a play-in round), because if team gets beat by 20 points or more, people think that maybe they should have not been in the dance to begin with.

I think it will help our Juniors, Sophmores, and Freshman understand their roles better, and with playing teamwork, which should carry over to next season.

So your NIT banner will say "2011 NIT Participant....won a couple of games"?

LOL ... Now, I qualified that to at least a final four in the NIT, so would read:

NIT - Final Four as opposed to NCAA Tournament, lost by 26 points in 1st round ... (2 can play that game!)

My premise is that every year, there are some teams that make the Dance, that really shouldn't be there, as well as some teams in the NIt that should have made it. Cream rises to the top, dirt clods sink to the bottom.

Let him have his fun...This is the first time in 30 some years ISUb has been relevant to anyone outside of Terra Haute...even even most people in that city.
