Well stated and that was the point I was trying to make as well when discussing WSU's schedule. Perhaps "exactly the same as everyone else" should be changed to "the same as almost everybody else."

Let's be frank here - unless you want to play a bunch of road games at BCS schools where you have a very small likelihood of success, the only real way to improve your noncon is through good exempt tourneys. WSU got a good one and played some good competition (and got a home run in the MWC challenge). Outside of that, WSu's non-con schedule really isn't significantly different than most of the rest of the conference.

BTW, the noncon exempt tourney thing is the same reason that I think CU's noncon SOS will be bad this next season --- we get a neutral game against Iowa and a few cream puffs. It is entirely possible that even with a very good record, an NCAA tourney snub could result. Thankfully, the year after, we get to play in the 76 Classic which, like the ESPN tourney in Orlando, has quality opponents because the games are guaranteed to be televised.

That is what Marshall should have said.

He has. Maybe not in this one piece that's been quoted, but he's said before that WSU needs to do more. But looking at the numbers, few others appear to be even trying.

And anybody who's checked out SN knows I've been one of the ones who would love to give up a home game to schedule something with another non BcS team. However, Puerto Rico, UNLV, Tulsa and Utah State should be pretty decent for the schedule. Not sure what USU brings next year. Would still like to see one more "good" game.

Like him or not, Gregg Marshall is generally pretty honest. Sometimes he says things he shouldn't, sometimes he gets mad at members of the media, sometimes he comes off very hotheaded. But from what I can make of the guy, he doesn't say things that he doesn't believe.

That doesn't mean that everything he says is factual, it is what he believes. As an outsider of the program, I have picked up on a ton of things that he probably shouldn't have said, but he is a man of passion and he is speaking with passion. Wichita State fans are passionate, and this type of candor is exactly what they want, they love it! And while Gregg Marshall has learned not to discuss who he is talking to regarding potential jobs, he has never made any illusions that he isn't looking for something better, most coaches do the no comment, or say that they are staying, only to leave on the next flight. I believe Shocker fans appreciate that honesty as well.

As for scheduling, in reality, Wichita State schedules no better than anyone else. They scored points with the Maui tourney and got a bump with required game against San Diego State, otherwise, their schedule looks no better, and in some instances, worse than many other Valley teams. But at the same time, you can't discount two or three games and then make a comparison. You can't discount SDSU or any MWC Challenge, it was on the schedule. With Illinois State coming in at 332, I don't think if they added Maui or the SDSU game, they would have gotten much of a bump at all.

Let me know when Creighton, Northern Iowa, and Missouri State have scheduled trips to Maui or Kansas City..

I love it. When countering an argument, the exempt tourneys and challenge games are used against you, because you did not schedule them. Fact of the matter is, they were scheduled and they are part of the OOC SOS. WSU put themselves in position to garner those types of games. That's why they got them. So trying to knock them down and act like those shouldn't be counted in the numbers wreaks of jealousy and insecurity. Get over it.

WSU could have scheduled better. The potential was there. But to say they had the exact same schedule as everybody else top to bottom is just a foolish and unintelligent leg to stand on. WSU has the best OOC in the Valley this year. Everyone else who is knocking on what Marshall said must really be hurt by that fact.

WSUbballer, I completely agree. The MWC challenge matchups are based on past performance. WSU earned the right to play a top team. As for Maui, I don't see other Valley teams playing there. I wonder why. Must be something that WSU has to offer that others don't. Also, let's not forget Tulsa. Marshall got that series back up and running, and they finished 2nd in CUSA this year.

WSU could do better, but could also do much worse.
Many of the other Valley teams couldn't do much worse.

No they are not. In fact, the wsu/sdsu game this year is the only game I can think of between two top teams in the history of this challenge.

We've had great draws in the bracketbuster, but out MWC/MVC matchups have been pretty awful considering we've been one of the top teams in the Valley the past few years.

Am I just dreaming this up? I thought the supposed criteria for the MVC/MWC challenge was to take the standings from the season 2 years prior to the one being scheduled to determine match-ups. 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, etc. Obviously the Valley's #10 would sit since the MVC only has 9 teams. Now that I look at it, this doesn't seem to be what has happened, although I could have sworn that this was how they announced that it would work.

I think next year's games are based on predictions for next year, with the exception of the last place team not invited.
