If Missouri State makes the financial commitment to be FBS they need to move to CUSA as it is clear that FCS football matters no where outside of the towns where it is played.

Well, despite comments by some MSU fans to the contrary, it looks like the money issues that I raised several pages ago are a big deal after all.

It also appears as though all of the whispers about something big happening on MSU's campus were also true.

Neither of them have anything to do with MSU leaving the MVC though. Instead, it would appear that MSU's President has resigned after serving for only a year, despite having three years left on a four year contract. In one of the reports I read, the resigning president indicated that his decision was motivated in part by the nightmare of dealing with the lingering debt of the John Q. Hammonds arena and the audit that revealed that MSU had issues managing money.

Alas, it would appear as though required improvements to the FB stadium just to get it up to C-USA standards are miles away.... as is a pending jump in conferences....

Perhaps the visiting dignitaries were auditors? Bankruptcy attorneys?

This has to be one of the most humorous turn of events that has occurred in the Valley in some time.

That's complete BS and had nothing to do with his forced resignation. The improvements to the football stadium are not miles away either.

What are they going to use to pay for them, monopoly money?

From the link below:

Of his presidency, Cofer said: “I have had to address someone else’s agenda. You know, the audit, JQH. I didn’t see, quite candidly, any letup.”

Sounds like the audit and the corresponding money issues of JQH were pretty pivotal in the whole thing....

CaseyGarrisonforPrez wrote:People in this thread have made some great points about Conference USA in the past and maybe even the present but this is about the future. If the conference keeps the same members, it'll be a terrific conference. UTEP hired an amazing coach in Floyd so they will continue to finish well. Memphis has Pastner and will always be good because of their talent. UAB has a coach that has taken a team to the Final Four. Southern Miss has a coach who is good but indescretions forced him out of the best job in the state of Iowa. Marshall has had a few nice years and look good. And Houston has a guy who has been the ACC COY before. Now granted SMU has underachieved under Doherty but SMU has big time boosters and in a huge market, they will succeed. Then look at Houston which has a legendary past, they will be back too. Noticing a common theme? I'm not even mentioning UCF and their awesome start of the season. These schools keep their coaches and many are legends at that.

Contrast with the Valley where no one keeps their coaches except maybe UNI and who knows about their future. It was clear that Jacobsen was out practincg like a Aggie Yell Leader to get that job. The arc of the USA is trekking upwards while the Valley is flat lining. Anyone can see it. Sure USA may not have the attendance or basketball savvy of the Valley but it has more potential which is a lot like Missouri State as a university. We are both going forward, not stuck in neutral.

Yes the money issue is his reason for leaving, but it has been well documented that Cofer was on the chopping block because of his refusal to work with MSU's biggest donors. He was given the option to choose his poison I think he made the right choice.
