Hes generally witty I'll give him that. And frequently quite funny. But intelligent? No. Not when he suggests WSU should "go independent" in basketball and that Orupke was going to be an NBA caliber center (just to name a couple) .

Cold is very bright. Very intelligent.

Your examples about his intelligence are meaningless.

Hey ... Orupke's still a big boy. I wouldn't ever completely count him out on making an NBA roster as a backup.

Just as long as they never give him the ball. Dude has hands made out of cinderblocks covered in grease.

I liked Orupke. 7 ft centers with atleticism and intelligence are a rare commodity. He was an important piece for you last year. But by his junior year it was fairly obvious his lack of offense and instincts at that end of the floor were going to relegate him to being a role player in college and keep him out of the NBA. I like him too and didn't mean any disrespect to him personally.

I was thinking strictly that based on him being 7' and athletic, he'll always be a possibility for jumping to the NBA.

Granted, I think it's a massive long shot, but height is valued very highly, and if there's anyone that I could see jumping to the NBA despite his clear lack of basketball ability, it'd be him. You get a lot of leeway when you're an athlete with that kind of size, and people will gamble on you eventually clicking for a while.

One thing that will help the big man is that he should get plenty of playing time in Europe and can focus entirely on basketball. Who knows, in a few years he might be just good enough on offense that his defense will attract a few looks from NBA teams. I'd never count a guy like him out, but even if it doesn't happen, he should have a very successful career in Europe.

Seriously, though, there's always a chance that things can click for him, and if they do, he has the size to always get interest from the NBA. But on a year to year basis, EO showed essentially zero improvement at WSU on the offensive front.

That's not true at all. He showed quite a bit of improvement on the offensive end. It was by no means polished, but he was a different player than when he first got here. Had he been somewhere that didn't have the frontcourt depth that we had, he most likely would have progressed even more. That's why I believe that some time in Europe where it'll be nothing but basketball for him and he'll get more court time could work wonders for the young man.

3 years later, even with knee and back surgeries, Jordan Eglseder is still getting looks at the D-League. Orupke is a much better athlete and should get looks if nothing else to be an end of the bench player who can spell for a few minutes just for defense and rebounding and 'hack a shaq' tactical uses.

Theres always a chance a 7 footer with athletic ability gets picked up. But its pretty slim IMO. 20 years ago I think he would have had a better shot. But today's NBA has really deemphsized post play. There just aren't many true post players anymore. The NBA these days would rather put another forward or 4 out there rather than a post player with some real weaknesses (like lack of offense).
