I disagree with this.

You don't have to necessarily do it in a mean or hateful way (depending on the team/fans), but that's what you're basically doing. You want your team to win and you want the team you're playing to lose. You want to be better than the teams you're playing against.

Unless you're a YMCA fan. If I'm wrong, then tell me what it's about.

Bragging it up against the losers is pretty close to mean/hateful. I always try (but often fail) to be gracious in defeat and victory. I find I was much better at this when I was the one competing at a high level athletically than I am as a fan. Certainly, as a fan, the success and failure of my team impacts my mood. I like to win and I like to talk about winning with other fans. I enjoy good natured and clever smack talk. I don't enjoy rubbing it in after a beat down by my team.

This has been a very enlightening thread though - we now know why Evansville fan base sucks and they draw only 3 to 4,000. Their a bunch of Indiana fans who are an equivalent of KU fans who show up at WSU games because it is the cool thing. Only problem is it hasn't been a cool thing in Evansville for two decades. It all makes sense now. No wonder they are so annoying.

For me it's the development of players , post season tourney runs, tradition. The food and drinks , social aspect the list goes on and on. Young boys becoming men over years of hard work. Then you have the X's and O's ....... a lot more than boasting over the opponents.

That's kinda funny since the majority of your posts here and on Bradleyfans seem to have a "Bradley Beats Wichita State" tone to them.

The Valley survived 25 years when Wichita sucked. They would survive if it happened again.

And yes I can't wait till that happens because of the arrogance of some of the Wichita fan base on the message boards. Just like at the old Valley board when you couldn't wait till SIU went into the "abyss" because of their posters.

The point was that there were not 2 good mid major programs. I proclaimed that there were. Just because one program hasn't excelled the last several years does not make them a bad program. As I pointed out to a 25 year of bad basketball for WSU. And you are proving my point to take up for those 25 years.

I will be done with this topic now.

For Aces1982 it's about conference survival, not a conference that is thriving. The SoCon survives too, so does the Atlantic Sun. Nobody gives a damn about either.

In his defense i don't recall him saying that Evansville was better than Wichita. Just that for a stretch of time they weren't the best in the Valley, based on purely results it looks to be true. I'm not quite sure he ever even labeled WSU as bad or unsuccessful during that stretch... Feel free to quote him if he did post it somewhere.

Also from a smack talk perspective... I think it's pretty easy to compliment what a team has to offer after victory. Sports for many people i know is about supporting your team, watching them change and develop, talking with fans; win or lose (much like Bradleyfa). Before a game I'm going to say here's "here's how we can beat them, lets get em, etc." but after the game life goes on, we're all sports fans, lets move on and grab a beer. As a Cubs fan i didn't go parading around to every White Sox fan yelling "LOOK AT WHAT MY TEAM HAS, YOU SUCK, YOUR ORGANIZATION IS TRASH, AND YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA WIN AND YOU DIDN'T SO SUCK IT" after we won the world series. I was just happy myself and curious to hear what sox fans thought about their organization and where it was going. Maybe the trash talk is self fulfilling for some, but not for me... and that's fine it, it just bums me out when i see people kicking down fans who try and have a convo. Especially because at the end of the day, especially in this sport, these are college students, and I think it's odd to use the 18-23 year olds your a fan of as a way to put down fans of different 18-23 year olds.

Also props to you Wu you've always been a very kind poster whenever we play you all!

WuFan...well said, especially that last sentence. It reflects on your own values and how you treat others with how you react to winning and losing, especially as a fan.

Clearly, you have been brought up well and are very respectful. I appreciate that.

But then again, you've been on the losing end for the better part of the last 20 years so that's expected. And by the way, you're the most arrogant, welching fan of them all -and you're a fan of FREAKING EVANSVILLE, so I'm not sure why you're so hypocritical about this.

You're spinning in circles and falling over like a 2 year old. You make little to no sense. By your infinite display of logic, every program in the entire country is a good program because for the most part there have been 2-3 year stints of good years for most schools. But once again, programs are compared on an overall level. You don't like that notion because your argument gets destroyed badly. Very badly. Like every argument you venture into... (Oklahoma State LOL, welching bet, etc.)

From 2013-present: WSU has a better program than Indiana.
In 2017, Northern Kentucky has a better program than Evansville.

Sports is about everything but what you say here. I have seven boys..yes seven and the oldest is now a college athlete. I have taught them all that you treat your opponent and the fans with respect in winning and losing. I have even pulled my oldest son out of a game when he was 10 years old and I wasn't the coach. If he can't handle his emotions, I won't stand to watch it and nobody else will. The coach was pretty surprised that he needed a first baseman when I did pull him. We went home right then and we haven't had an issue with him like that again. I view sports at least in the college age and below by turning kids into young men and women that can prioritize their life and give up some things at the moment they don't want to for the end goal. My son has missed out on a lot of "fun" to get where he is, but I don't think he regrets it at all. Sports is not at all what you mentioned above.
