Seemed like he barely got a chance to guard him this game. I watched that 5min highlight clip of Mosley that you posted in the other thread and there’s was only 1-2 clips of him scoring on Lucas. I’m not sure how many he actually scored on him, but I knew going into this game with the way Mosley had been playing, that Lucas keeping him in check was Loyola’s only hope. I was at this game and when he got in foul trouble early, I knew Loyola was screwed. Shooting 9/34 from deep is also not a winning recipe.
I look forward to the rematch, I’d consider Lucas holding him to under 25pts a success at this point. Mosley seems like the clear candidate for MVC player of the year, it doesn’t seem like anyone else in the Valley is anywhere near his level.
Mosley's the best offensive player in the league bar none and it's not even close in my opinion - AJ Green be damned. Mosley is smart and efficient (50% from the field the last two years at a HIGH volume), Green will play hero ball even when he's clearly having a bad game... he is only shooting 38% from the field this year!!!
All that said - if we're gonna talk about Williamson guarding Mosley... watch the footage. He had two baskets on Williamson all game - one on an offensive rebound where Hutson didn't attempt to get the the ball. Williamson came in for the last 6:30 and Mosley didn't get another field goal and MSU's offense was clearly disrupted. I thought Lucas' fourth was SOFT and with Uguak in foul trouble most of the game as well Mosley spent most of his time on Hall, Schweiger, and at times Norris and Clemons who just aren't fast/big enough to handle him and he took advantage (as he should).
The fouls are what they are though, Loyola couldn't throw a penny in the ocean from range and couldn't draw foul calls when they attacked Mosley. Hoping the refs let 'em play in Springfield that's a matchup people wanna see actually play out.
Nope. His fourth was the right call. Watch his left leg. He sticks his knee into him. That’s why he got called for it.
Its an unusual phenomenon with Williamson and Loyola fans. It seems like his virtue is questioned if anyone thinks he got scored on. Williamson fouled him as well. Those count for points in either FT’s or earlier bonus situations. Last night, no one could guard Mosley. There have been plenty of games where that’s not the case, he actually had a scoreless game this season.
Williamson is the best on-ball defender in the league. No doubt. He’s also handsy. Mosley said, “I knew coming in that he’s handsy and he was going to be handsy in this game. I just had to play through it.” He also called him the best defender in the Valley.
Personally, I’ve always felt like Ugoak doesn’t get enough credit for his defense. That guy is a MAN defensively and on the glass. He’s a more versatile defender that uses his strength to cause offensive players to adjust how they play. He just doesn’t have the quickness to guard elite scorers 1:1 so he doesn’t get the same shine.
