I think AJ is still in the picture but falling behind quickly. The thing about Mosely is he doesn't neet a set or screen to get his pts. A clear-out almost guarantees he scores. If help side comes, he probably still scores but is very capable of finding the open guy (especially his high school teammate Black). AJ usually gets his points from his teammates.

Does anyone know the last player to win MVC POY that wasn’t on a team that won the MVC conference in the same year? If we’re going off recent MVC history whoever wins MVC POY most likely depends on what team wins the regular season. So I’d put Mosley, Green, Williamson, and Penn in the mix, but if Mosley keeps playing like this he should win POY regardless of what team is crowned regular season champs.

Didn't Tuttle get it one year when UNI was 16-2 and Wichita was 17-1?

Seemed like he barely got a chance to guard him this game. I watched that 5min highlight clip of Mosley that you posted in the other thread and there’s was only 1-2 clips of him scoring on Lucas. I’m not sure how many he actually scored on him, but I knew going into this game with the way Mosley had been playing, that Lucas keeping him in check was Loyola’s only hope. I was at this game and when he got in foul trouble early, I knew Loyola was screwed. Shooting 9/34 from deep is also not a winning recipe.

I look forward to the rematch, I’d consider Lucas holding him to under 25pts a success at this point. Mosley seems like the clear candidate for MVC player of the year, it doesn’t seem like anyone else in the Valley is anywhere near his level.

Mosley's the best offensive player in the league bar none and it's not even close in my opinion - AJ Green be damned. Mosley is smart and efficient (50% from the field the last two years at a HIGH volume), Green will play hero ball even when he's clearly having a bad game... he is only shooting 38% from the field this year!!!

All that said - if we're gonna talk about Williamson guarding Mosley... watch the footage. He had two baskets on Williamson all game - one on an offensive rebound where Hutson didn't attempt to get the the ball. Williamson came in for the last 6:30 and Mosley didn't get another field goal and MSU's offense was clearly disrupted. I thought Lucas' fourth was SOFT and with Uguak in foul trouble most of the game as well Mosley spent most of his time on Hall, Schweiger, and at times Norris and Clemons who just aren't fast/big enough to handle him and he took advantage (as he should).

The fouls are what they are though, Loyola couldn't throw a penny in the ocean from range and couldn't draw foul calls when they attacked Mosley. Hoping the refs let 'em play in Springfield that's a matchup people wanna see actually play out.

Evansville just beat a team that 2 days ago beat them by 38. Too bad the Aces have to play on the road, because they are a different team at the Ford.

Williamson guarding Mosley: that’s what I thought, people that say Williamson couldn’t guard him clearly didn’t pay attention or watch that game. I’m looking forward to the matchup and hope the refs actually let them play.

Nope. His fourth was the right call. Watch his left leg. He sticks his knee into him. That’s why he got called for it.

Its an unusual phenomenon with Williamson and Loyola fans. It seems like his virtue is questioned if anyone thinks he got scored on. Williamson fouled him as well. Those count for points in either FT’s or earlier bonus situations. Last night, no one could guard Mosley. There have been plenty of games where that’s not the case, he actually had a scoreless game this season.

Williamson is the best on-ball defender in the league. No doubt. He’s also handsy. Mosley said, “I knew coming in that he’s handsy and he was going to be handsy in this game. I just had to play through it.” He also called him the best defender in the Valley.

Personally, I’ve always felt like Ugoak doesn’t get enough credit for his defense. That guy is a MAN defensively and on the glass. He’s a more versatile defender that uses his strength to cause offensive players to adjust how they play. He just doesn’t have the quickness to guard elite scorers 1:1 so he doesn’t get the same shine.

Tuttle in 16 because Baker and VanVleet spilt the Wichita bite.

Predictably, they spent the weekend whining about it and lost in the semifinal as UNI won the tournament.

Williamson is a great defender and I'm sure he'll be ready in Springfield, but I think you're kinda glossing over that Williamson was in foul trouble because he tried to guard Mosley. And he wasn't guarding Mosley other times, because they wanted to protect him from fouling guarding Mosley. Mosley after the game noted that last year, Williamson was "very handsy" [ not a criticism] with him, and that he knew he was going to need to play stronger this time.

He'll have off nights , but I think the smartest way to try to contain Mosley is to force him to have to defend and hope to either get him in foul trouble or get in Ford's dog house because of defensive lapses. He can get baited into individual duels at times , but kinda tends to win those.

It’s an unusual phenomenon for fan to defend their players? Hahaha I’m waiting for a UNI fan to come in and defend green vs. Mosley, or a drake fan to swoop in and just randomly announce DeVries is the best coach in the league…. I don’t think it’s unusual at all hahahaha. If Mosley was in foul trouble all game MSU fans would be rooting for the same thing - it’s sports… no…. ITS THE VALLEY.

Didn’t have a good angle on the knee, so I’ll trust ya! Regarding free throws - I don’t believe any were shooting fouls. They all happened too early to be in the bonus + one of the fouls on Williamson was offensive.. Valentine said postgame that Williamson was told pregame by the refs they’re we’re gonna call it very tight and they did (that said the ref waiting a full two seconds to call a travel on MSU in the first half was a bit too showy for my taste).

Agreed on Uguak tho! Great length and “free safety” in the lane. Personally a big Patterson fan myself, that kids tough.

Williamson is an elite defender. Mosley is an elite scorer. Mosley won yesterday's battle by a landslide. I look forward to the next matchup in Springfield.

It's a team game but that matchup is critical to each teams success. Besides being great fun to watch.

Fair enough. I suppose I'm unusual in thinking that is weird.

Regarding the pre-game talk about calling things close over him being handsy, you'd think that makes it even worse for Loyola fans that he got into foul trouble. He was literally warned ahead of time that they were going to call the things he tends to do as fould today, so don't do them, yet he got into foul trouble anyway. Probably weird on this one as well, but that would frustrate me as a fan and have me even more upset at my player.
