It's that CBS and Fox and to a lesser extent NBC/Universal/USA have increased their inventory, and have to wait out ESPN. And the Valley with CBS has to wait out their higher priority properties (B1G, SEC, AAC, A10).

I'm not talking about CBB inventory only, but you're spot on with the delays ESPN causes (which was my point).

Because ESPN has the first tier rights to many significant properties, collegiate and professional alike, their scheduling process is complicated and slows everything down.

ESPN is pretty much the culprit for anything that seems slower than it should be, or was, in collegiate sports.

They're a gift and a curse.

Gotcha - yeah, and I tend to think only in a CBB bubble, and see what you mean now.

I saw someone mention on here that SIU is still looking for a tournament for this fall. Does anyone know if this is still expected to happen? I saw their schedule on ESPN, but no tournament is listed.

Drake is still 3 games short so, I'm assuming, a whole lotta non-DIs happening in Des Moines.

SIU better figure it out because I believe you forfeit any league distribution if you don't play in an MTE.

SIU has been listed/named for the Gulf Coast Showcase - but that field hasn't officially been released - So that's probably why. I know they were being SUPER picky.

SIU, Richmond, La Tech, Eastern Kentucky and Ball State are the five schools that reportedly are part of the Gulf Coast Showcase (that's been out there for a while), but they've apparently had major trouble filling out what is usually an eight-team field. Supposedly Oral Roberts was tentatively a sixth and then that fell through. But I have no idea WTF is going on now (maybe add a D2 team just to get to an even number?) ... Oct. 8 is wild to not have a field/bracket announced. It sounds like the trend of more on-campus MTEs has shrunk the pool of available teams for these destination events, and that is part or most of the issue here.

And now who knows if the major hurricane headed toward Florida's gulf coast will pose further complications ...

With 6 teams, you can have pool play with a crossover for the championship, but 5 teams gets you nowhere.

I agree that it is odd that this isn't done yet.

You can also do pre arranged matchups with six teams. That's easy. As mentioned - five is a major problem.
