Answer man - DJ was off most MVC fans posters radar at the start of the year. So its pretty meaningless that he finished last. Also the history of this award shows its generally given to the best player on the best team. No one thought pre season that Evansville would be our best team so his poor showing is understandable.

Why make derogatory about this pre season poll anyway? It's just a fun thing to do. No one is saying it's scientific or infallible. Trying to give you the benefit of the doubt but most of your posts make no sense whatsoever.

Trolls don't spend any time on research. I spend most of my time on research. And I don't attack others with childish cartoons that demean the mentally-challenged. Obviously, if enough shocker thin skins sing the troll song, the administrator will bend like a wet noodle and ban me. I know how vigilante gangs operate. To fit in, I've decided to name the player who should but won't be named the MVC Player of the Year. D.J. Balantine will lead the MVC in scoring and be among the nation's leaders. He is currently 4th in the nation at 24.9 and 1st in the MVC. In the MVC, he will be in the top ten in assists with an outstanding assist to turnover ratio. He will be in the top 5 in FT%. Currently in the MVC, Balantine is 1st in scoring, 3rd in FT%, 5th in 3-pt FG%, 1st in 3-pt made, 5th in assists per game, and 1st in FG made. No other MVC player comes close to those figures in their totality. And where does he rank in your biased preseason poll? Dead last. How did you geniuses reach that conclusion?

I'll give you Ballentine as a legit contender for POY. He is currently all the things you say he is. Will he continue to be as the competition increases? I think so, but I'll wait for it to play out. This poll, in case your research didn't demonstrate it, was performed PRIOR to the start of the season. At that time his stats were 8.1 ppg, 1.9 assists, 1.7 rebounds, 0.4 steals, 40%FG, 30%3FG, and 67%FT. Those were freshman stats playing behind Colt Ryan, but really don't point to him being top 10 in the nation as a sophomore.

Some people believe that being THE GUY on a bad team is better than being a starter on a good team. Some people like to be the big fish in a small pond. Others believe that being THE guy on a good team is more important, i.e. that player impacted winning more than the "big fish." Nothing wrong with your decision to like small ponds for POY.

One question. Why chastise the poll as illegitimate and then quote stats that didn't exist at the time of the poll?

Can you answer that, or is my asking it proof that you will be illegitimately treated as a troll for failing to subscribe to group think?

Careful, when I said that the Player of the Year was given to the best player on the winning team it was deemed to be evidence of trolling. By the way, are you trolling?

A lot of rhetorical questions there. I believe that THE GUY on a good team is better able to be THE GUY because the passers and rebounders around him give him more opportunity to be THE GUY. It is much more difficult to be great with a target on your back as the only legit scorer on a small pond team. Similarly, I believe that the coach of the year could be the unknown guy who took a team with a 300 RPI and made them all twice the players they ever thought about being. But most think that the coach of the year is someone like Calipari who brings in NBA players who are forced to sit out a year between high school and the pros. I believe that he doesn't turn them into pros, he sits with them in the waiting room.

But you make a good point. The poll which is weighted to reward the player with the most fans couldn't be expected to carefully consider the talents of "small pond" Balentine. But now that you no longer have ignorance of his abilities as an excuse, rather than acknowledge his abilities, you will slight him with the small pond insult. And ironically, the Player of the Year is awarded in honor of perhaps the greatest small pond basketball player in history: Larry Bird. That little old country boy from French Lick shunned the big stage at Indiana University and Bob Knight to be THE GUY at small pond Indiana State. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you didn't small pond him in his sophomore year like you will small pond Balentine this year. Big ponders are like that.

There were actually zero rhetorical questions. I only asked one question. You didn't answer it answer man.

New questions for TheAnswerMan:

Do you feel it is difficult to express yourself in words that others can understand?

Do you feel that you share nothing in common with others on this board?

Do you believe more than one thing about the Valley that no one else does?

Do others not believe you when you tell them things?

Are others plotting against you?

Are you treated unfairly because others are jealous of your intellect?

Do you have magical powers or communicate with people that no one else can see or hear? - Because if so, you might have…VALLEY SCHIZOPHRENIA!!!

Could you be more trollish?

Do you think commenters are under any obligation to answer one or all of your questions?

Your train has jumped the track.

I said that it is too early to know the Player of the Year. That makes me a "troll".

You said that it is too early to think of Balentine as the Player of the Year. That makes you "reasonable."

I said that the Player of the Year goes to the winning team. That makes me a "troll."

Another commenter implied that Balentine wasn't likely to be Player of the Year because he won't be on the winning team. That makes him "reasonable."

You are asking condescending questions and I have been treated to a cartoon implying that I am mentally retarded. That makes you "reasonable."

I have personally insulted no one. That makes me a "troll."

I am new here. Is this normal for this site?

Well, now we at least know where your alliegence lies.. with evansville. You avoided it like the plague (for good reason) but at least we now know where your convictions lie.

And my goodness, do you talk a lot of BS, considering what your school has (or hasn't) done in the last decade and a half.
