I get that argument but who below them can you say is definitely better? That's how we ended up with them higher than we thought we would. We started thinking that 5-6 range.

Born, Heise, Duax, Anderson, Phyfe (even limited) is as good as any group with what we know right now other than the octogenarians at Drake :) and the talent at Missouri State.

I'd say both SIU and Bradley on paper have more returning proven impact type players , again if Phyfe isn't healthy. With SIU you have Jones/Domask, with Bradley you have Mast and Leons . Obviously most every team has younger guys like Duax and Anderson they hope [ think] are ready to be starters and possible more, but as far as proven, even a team like Indiana State has more , but of course none have Jake.

Completely fair. It'll be interesting to see where we're all at on October 1.

Yeah I mean, I don't pick against Jake much; but just talking returning firepower , UNI will need a couple younguns to be ready to assume fairly large roles. They may well be ready ; that's the fun of college basketball, the constant changing of the guard. Who's the next Green/Mosley.

Agreed. Most preseason polls go off of "who has the most returning players we have actually seen". Right or wrong I get it.

Bradley will have four "starters" back - Hickman, Henry (if you count him), Leons and Mast.

SIU has four right? Domask, Jones, Mulia, Verplancken.

Drake three? But basically four if you count Sturtz - which we should.

I would expect those three to be the top three (not in that order) in the preseason poll - based on that. As we know it doesn't always mean a whole lot.

We kind of spit-balled it over a few beers the other night.

Preliminarily--

Drake
Missouri State (with Mosley, otherwise slot them 5th)
UNI
Southern Illinois
Bradley
Murray State
Belmont
Valpo
Indiana State
UIC
Illinois State
Evansville

Very interesting list....
Missouri State without Primm (even with Mosley) will struggle. But they will have the talent to be near the top.
UNI without Green, Berhow, Carter, and probably Phyfe
Murray State with like 3 players
Belmont with half a team?

I project

Drake
SIU
Bradley

Missouri State

The rest is to be determined.

People shouldn't sleep on Missouri State; if Mosley isn't playing professionally it looks favorable for a return to the Bears. He reportedly turned down 1 Blue Blood program's overtures already. But even w/o Mosley, the Bears may be really good once a few moving parts get acclimated. Dana's had a great spring recruiting which included staff, and may have his most athletic and talented roster yet. Moore was a legit top 100 add, I love our 4 man freshman class, and Trimble and Ridgnal are nice bench pieces. Everyone says he can't coach, but he was 6-1 against those 3 teams last year, 10-4 the last 2 years. His albatross is named Jake .

Oh, and I don't think Dana is done; I expect 1 maybe 2 more adds .

His record against Drake is 2-4. over the last two years, so 8-0 against the others?

I agree MSU still has the most talent on paper.

Yeah, he went 0-3 , then 2-1 last year vs Drake. Two of the four losses have been on the last shot. But yeah 8-0 vs SIU and Bradley.Don't know if we have the most talent, but we have a good roster. I think that's one of the ways people diss Ford is saying he's got so much more talent than others. Our roster last year had 2 top level players, a Valpo discard who is better than that, and then just a bunch of role players . I never think anyone in the Valley is just able to out recruit everyone else; we all gather from the same talent level pool with occasional big hits or surprise performers. Remember Prim started in D-2 then juco , and Mosley was passed on by many, although concern with his academics probably scared a few off.

As of now I see a top 3 of:

Drake
Bradley
SIU

UNI has just too much with AJ and Carter; Born is outstanding, but after him and Heise - who will have to step up - there's a lot of unknown. I expect a top half finish though from UNI; the rest of the league is a who knows for me.

Uhhhh, y'all must have been drinking some kick A 9.5% IPAs (as opposed to Bud Light). To wit, what/who on the Murray State incoming roster makes you think that don't belong in the basement?? Really sorry to pick on them, but welcome to the jungle. Other than a D2 player rated 1400 out of 1422 in the transfer portal, and an OVC transfer.....??????
