Creighton to A-10?

Discuss the MVC hoops season here.

Take it a different way, which conference is better poised to grow in the future? When the Big East breaks up, who benefits more? Which conference is looking for expand versus stay put? Which conference has more teams that play football, potentially looking to move up? Which conference has more money to invest in the future?

This is not a loaded question. Should be some good debate on these questions.

One thing that is going to happen this summer is the NCAA is going to look very hard at reorganizing DI football. Whatever that means. But when you consider they are finally looking at a playoff (albeit a 4-team) and the fact they have refused the CUSA-MWC's proposed dual-AQ status, what decisions they make could have a drastic effect across non-BCS.

Also, the dividing line could very well be those who can afford to pay each athlete in all sports an additional $2000 stipend.

The fact of the matter is fewer than 100 can...that's where this is going. If you can't or won't you're out.

The bottom of the A10 isn't very good, but an east / west split would give CU a home-home every year with Xavier, Dayton, SLU , and Butler plus occasional games with VCU and Mason among others. As far as travel, getting to Philly or Cincinnati isn't any more difficult than Terre Haute or Normal IL.

Been told Fr Lannon wants this done. He was quoted telling the A10 executive committee that they should consider Creighton if the league ever expanded.

Whoops, I forgot that UNI was in the 70s. For some reason I mixed up them falling out of the Top 50 as falling out of the Top 100. IllState might finish up there, but they weren't in the top 100 for tournament selection time, so I refuse to count it ;) Still, eight to three or even four, A-10 clearly wins the RPI argument.

St. Bonaventure 5,480
St. Joeseph's 4,200 (during the NIT broadcast there was multiple references of it being 2,800)
SLU - 10,600
Temple 10,206
Xavier 10,250

Have fun on those Rhode trips playing in front of less people than UNI and Drake every night....Much bigger time stages than the MVC...that's fo sho

So you ignored every point I made and countered with "well, the A10 has five schools that seat less fans than UNI!"

Awesome job.

Apparently, Butler to A-10 isn't a done deal YET.......I hope Elgin is on the phone w/Butler to see if they are interested because they geographically fit the Valley better than the A-10. Who knows, if we can get Butler, maybe SLU will follow....

Outside of one or two random comments by Majerus, I've never heard anything about SLU having any interest whatsoever in the MVC. I'm convinced that Fr. Biondi has zero interest in it. The alumni, outside of a small group in STL, don't currently want it. SLU is trying to market itself to eastern markets for undergraduate enrollment, which would all go away if they join the Valley. Also important to note that SLU's catholic, jesuit makeup more resembles that of the A10 than the MVC.

I wouldn't be completely shocked to see Butler stay in the Horizon. There will be a lot of money coming into the Horizon in the form of NCAA tourney credits resulting from Butler's two championship game appearances. If the A10 isn't willing to step up and supplement some of the losses Butler would experience if they jump ship, Butler may take a pass for now.

CAA is planning to raise their exit fees soon.

Also today, their commish commented on Georgia St bailing to the Sun Belt and said

We've been aware that GSU was having discussions with the Sun Belt Conference as the CAA could not accommodate that desire within GSU's timeframe.

Which is a very strong illusion to the fact that the entire CAA has FBS football in their plans in the very near future.

There's a very distinct possibility GMU and VCU just stay put for the future FBS conference. And if Butler does too, the door is wiiiiiiiide open for Creighton.

If Butler doesn't move, it is less appealing for CU as Butler would have been one of the closer teams. Travel is an issue and the more western teams the better.

If GMU and VCU also stay put, I find it hard to believe CU would have much interest.

Once Butler is formally invited, they will be gone to the A10. It's just of matter of when.

Georgia State to the Sun Belt just reaffirms that the CAA is a sinking ship. VCU and George Mason are going to jump to A10 as well if offered.
