Wessel knocks down shot after shot in practice, and they will continue to try to get him on track as long as it doesn't interfere with the big picture. IE Don't be surprised if he continues to go 0-1 in a bunch of games, but don't expect to see 0-4.

To Evan's HUGE credit, he has not only accepted this, but has thrived as his defense, offensive rebounding and intangibles have improved every game. His value, and it's high value in my opinion, is vastly underrated and I for 1 love what I'm seeing from him. I think I heard someone say he was trying to emulate Graham Hatch...can't think of a better person to mimic.

Wessel is a great "glue" guy. As long as we aren't counting on him for offensive outbursts, what he is currently doing is enough for the team. Perhaps at year's end he will hurt us by not being able to contribute on the offensive end of the court. Perhaps he'll be an unlikely hero. Either way, he is a valuable contributor…he's just missing shots.

In the NCCU game, Wessel subbed out shortly after passing on a wide open 3-pointer. I believe the substitution was a product of timing and normal substitution patterns. On Evan's way to the bench, HCGM stopped him, put his hand on his chest, and pointed to the spot on the court where Evan had been wide open while talking to him. I think coach still has confidence in Evan, and is trying to put it back into him. He must like what he sees in practice, because at 0-11, I wouldn't expect to see a coach telling a guy he'd better shoot it if he's wide open.

I see what you mean about being a glue guy. That's important stuff that guys like that do. But glue guys HAVE to be able to hit open shots. Otherwise that can just be a killer from an offensive standpoint for your team.

To me Keith Pickens is the ultimate utility player or "glue guy". Plays great defense, boards well, can handle the ball when needed, etc. He's not a great offensive player but he's not a guy you can leave alone either.

2 years ago Bizoukis was our PG. He did a lot of things well. But he just couldn't consistently knock down wide open shots. He was generally always given wide open looks. That was a killer.

Hopefully Wessel's shot and confidence come around. If not it doesn't matter what else he can do - that will hurt you guys in the long run.

Kind of off subject but is there any concern about Evan Wessels play so far? Maybe rust from being out so long last year?

He has zero confidence in his three ball. It's really incredible.

Guy is a three point specialist, and he can't make a shot now. He's still giving good minutes, but man .... His shot is bad.

Wessel is definitely not a three point specialist and I would guess that 45% last year was just a result of not enough data. Still, he should be a serviceable 3 pt shooter somewhere in the 30-35% range. 0% is insane. He's starting to remind me of Jake White.

Marshall described that situation on his last coach's show. As I recall, he said he told Evan if he passed up another wide open shot like that he'd take him out. Then later in the game he took a guarded three that was partially blocked.

Evan will get it worked out. I have this feeling once that first trey goes down his confidence will spike and he'll go on a nice run of hitting 60% of this threes over a span of 5+ games.
