So this guy blasts this poll and says it's too early to base anything off of it because nobody has played a Valley game, but then puts DJ Ballentine's name in the hat, typing out an essay using stats and numbers based on non-Valley games against IUPUI, Mercer, Martin Methodist, etc?

Can you say hypocrisy?

Worst poster on the board, bar none. Way to represent evansville.

To fit in, I've decided to name the player who should but won't be named the MVC Player of the Year. D.J. Balantine will lead the MVC in scoring and be among the nation's leaders. He is currently 4th in the nation at 24.9 and 1st in the MVC. In the MVC, he will be in the top ten in assists with an outstanding assist to turnover ratio. He will be in the top 5 in FT%. Currently in the MVC, Balantine is 1st in scoring, 3rd in FT%, 5th in 3-pt FG%, 1st in 3-pt made, 5th in assists per game, and 1st in FG made. No other MVC player comes close to those figures in their totality. And where does he rank in your biased preseason poll? Dead last. How did you geniuses reach that conclusion?

Well, now we at least know where your alliegence lies.. with evansville. You avoided it like the plague (for good reason) but at least we now know where your convictions lie.

And my goodness, do you talk a lot of BS, considering what your school has (or hasn't) done in the last decade and a half.

Last year my school swept two games with a Final Four team. You get one guess who it was.

What did that sweep get you? Commemorative DVD of the games? Did that increase donations to your scholarship fund? Did you hang a banner or have a trophy made? Aside from the lamest of bragging rights, what did you gain, in a tangible way, from the sweep?

And there you go. A proud achievement for sure. An achievement that you're trying to knock down, which of course, makes no sense. But then again, your logic since you've been here makes no sense. But we at least know where the insecurity is coming from now.

It says a lot about the two programs when you're bragging about beating Wichita State, and we're bragging about beating Ohio State. 'Nuff said.

I sure hope the voters for the awards are wise enough to focus on conference stats only. It would be a disgrace to the league if DJ or anyone won the award off of non on achievements.

I'm not sure that's how it works or how it should work. I'd personally prefer the best players throughout the season get the awards. I thought it was comical a couple of years ago when fans said McDermott shouldn't be MVC POY even though he was a first team All American.

I think there are reasonable arguments on both sides. I like considering the entire season with an emphasis on league games. That is when the schedules are comparable, so it is easier to make even comparisons.

While I don't have a problem with McDermott having won POY a couple of years ago, for all his greatness, his team still lost the league race by 2 games. There is something to be said for winning games (certainly 14-4 was not a bad record). There is also something to be said for stat-padding. When your AA is playing 37 minutes in 30-point blowouts, you have to wonder if he should really be rewarded.

Perhaps it was due to the fact that while the poll was active, all us geniuses had to go on was one season of 8.1 ppg. The poll ended on Oct 28, before any games were played this season. Every player on that list had better numbers last season. Combine that with what has already been pointed out about the POY usually coming from the league champ, and most reasonable people would not vote for the least productive player on the list.
