Suck it up, call up Chris Lowery, apologize for the mistake made in 2012, and offer him a lifetime contract at $1 million+ per year to come back and return SIU to a national powerhouse.

They didn't give Lowery a fair shot. Five years with a 67-90 record is not enough to establish he couldn't coach. If his trend would have continued SIU would have won 3-5 games the following year.

And that's before what he did to their APR. Another year and they may have been down to being allowed 8 scholarships.

He had bad basketball players that also didn't do schoolwork. Real leader of men there.

Lowery was so bad that he is the only Evansville guy we haven't hired.

AND this was after SIU's nearly 7 straight year NCAA tournament run which allowed Lowery to have some of SIU's best recruiting classes, but he couldn't do anything with them.
Put another way, early on, when Lowery won, it was with already established players. When they left, the team kept getting worse and worse.

I actually think Lowery deserves another head coaching job but it should be something like the Horizon League or OVC. He's done a nice job at Northwestern as an assistant and I feel like he could learn from his mistakes at SIU.

100%. He won assistant coach of the year honors and Northwestern's play took off when Collins hired him. He's highly respected in Big Ten circles. Northwestern had been a graveyard program forever.

I'd like to see Lowery get another opportunity. Remember, he was in 30s during his SIU tenure. He's in his 50s now. He's had a lifetime of experience since then.

5-9 now after the embarrassing loss to Evansville. No time to waste. Fire Nagy now and begin working to bring Lowery back home so we can be a dominant team in the MVC and a top 25 team again in the 2025-26 season.

They were wanting to fire Ragland at Evansville until we won our last 2 games. We have played our last 4 or so games without Pozzato who could be freshman of the year before getting hurt.

What is the status of the Pozzato injury?

He may be available as early as tomorrow against ISU blue but the Iowa trip the following week is the target return. He is being treated for back spasms. He took a tough fall in the WKU game, played the next game against Chattanooga and has missed the last 4 games.

Safe to say this season has not been a good first impression for Nagy.

Yes, losing Elijah Elliott to the ACL injury was a major blow, but not an excuse to be as godawful as Southern has been, losing all three MVC games so far, including at home to Evansville, by double digit margins. They've mostly looked bad at both ends of the floor (despite Nagy talking up the defense leading into the season), and worse, considering the grit Saluki fans expect, they have caved whenever adversity hits in a game. The team is fairly talented on the wing (although Dibba runs hot and cold, both in output and focus), but point guard play and interior play are both subpar. Now, attendance for the rest of the year is going to tank and it could be a historically bad MVC season.

I'm sure there will be 10 or so new players (again) on next year's roster, and they have a couple promising incoming freshmen signed, but public sentiment has shifted pretty quickly from "What a great hire" to "Is he washed up?" And always harder to recruit when morale around the program is low.

Now that SIU has won the 2 conference games they are likely to win all season, i hope SIU (and MSU) realize the mistakes they made. SIU had the opportunity to bring back a legend this year and MSU could have hired him as a head coach a few years ago (before he left for a better position at Northwestern). The Valley will always be a 2nd (or 3rd) class conference as long as it's members continue to pass on legendary coaches who would co.e back here and generate regular appearances in the big dan.
