Since Drake doesn't play in the MVFC, I don't know a lot about the football side of things. Why would Murray need to find a different conference for football, rather than joining the MVFC? Would there be too many teams in the league then?

Some people say yes because there are 11 teams now meaning there are 10 other teams to play. There's a 2 year rotation where you don't play every team every year.

I know this is a basketball (mostly) forum, but just to add a bit of clarification to the football issue...

With the recent addition of North Dakota, it's now 2 teams that each team has to skip in a 2-year period. For example, this last season, ILSU skipped SDSU and YSU; SIU skipped NDSU and USD. Adding more to the MVFC means each team skips 3, or you go to some kind of divisional setup (2x6) where you play everyone in your division plus 3 of the 6 in the other division. For balance, you'd probably want to go with something like a Summit+Horizon division (UND, NDSU, USD, SDSU, WIU, YSU) and a MVC team division (ILSU, INSU, MOSU, Murray St, UNI, SIU).

Alternately, if the OVC drops football as a sport and the OVC teams with scholarship football play football with the Southland, then the MVFC stays as it currently is if the MVC adds Murray State.

If I recall, there’s some important president’s meeting tomorrow, right? Anyone got any insight on what’s going to go down there?

Presentations. At least from three of the four if reports are to be believed. Then, one would assume, voting.

Apparently UIC isn't presenting because the Valley already has everything they need from them (i.e. they sent a Google Maps link confirming that they are, indeed, in Chicago)

Arlington, Murray, Kansas City tomorrow

To answer the football question, UNI and Missouri State don't want another eastern team because it locks us in to a division with the Dakotas which is a huge competitive disadvantage and, minimum, 5 flights every year while the Eastern schools get to play in a much worse division that's also a bus league.

Even in a down year, the MVC is still very ahead of the SoCon on KenPom

Thanks. I hadn't even thought about the schedule changes with Adding North Dakota.

Take a look at the teams the SoCon members have played and won against.

They're having a good start to the year no doubt but the So Con hasn't been a two bid league at least since 2002, I don't anticipate that changing this year while the Missouri Valley was a two bid league just last year.

Well said... I'm not sure how the voting went when the MVFC turned down Murray State, but was the North Dakota vote the deciding factor? If so, I hate that.
I know the MVC and the MVFC are two separate entities, but this is trending more and more like the Big East right before they split. I don't think it is quite to that point yet, but we are getting closer.
