A foul is a foul is a foul, whether in the first one second of the game or the last one second.
The referee that made the call made the correct call……..he had a split second to make the correct decision ignoring whether the shot was made or not. If missed, we go to overtime. If made and plus one, there is still .6 seconds remaining in a 40 minute game and the free throw is awarded.
To think the game was decided in the last 4.3 seconds by a drive to the basket accompanied by a foul is ludicrous as it completely ignores every play made or not made in between. The outcome is the result of total play. Both teams went at each other the entire game like warriors……like Ali vs
Fraizer.
Hell yes, it was a tough way to lose a hotly contested big game for both squads. The shoe could have been on the other foot and ISU-B fans would probably, including me, be upset and grabbing at whatever to explain away a tough loss to a team that had been shown absolutely no respect by ALL MVC fans.
We knew we had a deep and talented team with a blend of very good red shirt Freshmen and some veteran leadership. Three FRESHMEN played significant minutes last night. On the bench was another 6' 9" Freshmen who is being red shirted this year. He was a member of last year's Indiana All-Star team that played in the annual Indiana-Kentucky All-Star game.
McKenna had a plan to build a program when he became ISU's coach and he did so by red shirting 4 Freshman last year. Those four coupled with Freshman Steve McWhorter and this year's red shirt Freshman are part of that plan now being led by Coach Lansing.
These young players will be joined next year by Freshmen Justin Gant, 6' 9", of Terre Haute North. Gant will most likely be a member of this year's Indiana All Star team. Joining Gant next year will be two other recruits whose names escape me. One is a 6' 3" guard from Kileen, TX who scored 27 pts. in a recent outing. The other is a 6' 6" slasher from Indianapolis who is currently playing at one of the top basketball academy schools. He had earlier verballed to Univ. Of Cincinnati, but withdrew that to play for ISU and Coach Lansing when Lansing was named Coach as Lansing had recruited him and a bond had been established.
A few days ago, 6' 9" Khristian Smith, a Junior at Sullivan, IN High School announced that he will bring his game to ISU-B at the conclusion of his high school career.
There is a saying that information is power. Hopefully, MVC fans have more information about what is being built at ISU-B. As with anything in life, only time will tell the story. But from an ISU perspective, things are definitely on the up swing and to paraphrase a WSU saying, "Things are so bright i have to wear shades."
Hopefully, my post has informed all MVC.com followers and fans more about what is being built at ISU-B. I'm sure other MVC schools have their own stories to tell and all of us are not privy to that information. And that's all well and good as it only makes the MVC a great basketball conference.
I don't have a dog in this fight but I agree with your post 100%. A foul is a foul whether the 1st second or last and it should be called. It didn't take guts for the official to make that call that was his job. So many things happen in 40 minutes that call had no bearing on who won. I'm a bradley fan whos program is going in opposite directions of yours and i'm jealous. You got alot going in T.H. and we are heading for THurdays in ST L for a long time if changes aren't made here in river city. Great win last night trees. I really like MSU and you were able to get a win against them impresses me.
