If we split, literally none of us have a better option. It doesn't exist. The Valley has been around for 110 years and has had to majorly reinvent itself several times, this is just one of those times again. If this league can survive what happened in the late 90s, this is easy.
I could be wrong, but I don't think it was entirely that simple and in that order.
My understanding was that the basketball schools were upset that conference decisions were being based on football while football schools were upset about sharing football based revenue with basketball only schools. The tv contract was not as valuable, simply because football revenue is extremely high at that level and the league was not a football power. Chasing after football money was what caused Boston College and later Pittsburgh and Syracuse, all schools that were traditional Big East schools dating back to the 80's, to leave.
Again, I could be wrong because I haven't researched. Just how I remember it. I wish it would have started that way because it could have turned out better for college basketball a lot sooner.
