I feel like when coaches say they are helping transfers out of their program find new places to go that is more of window dressing for "If a coach calls me on them, I will speak positively about the kid," versus the coach actually helping them land somewhere.

Coaches really busy this time of yeat; sifting through over 1,000 names in the portal, scheduling, fund raising, etc. Do we really think that they're going to take the time to find a place for a kid that is better suited elsewhere?

I'm looking forward to a couple weeks from now when the masses start committing and we get a better idea of what rosters are going to look like next season.

Wardle said on a recent radio interview that once a Bradley guy enters the portal, they are done at BU and would not allow them to "weigh their options" and later return. He even went as far as comparing his relationship to his players as a kind of marriage where if they enter the portal, it is similar to cheating on your spouse and then asking to come back.

I can see that line of thinking where you don't want guys to enter the portal to just see how much NIL money they could get and have that gray area of whether you need to fill a scholarship or not.

How are other MVC coaches handling this?

When you realize a player is at the wrong level, particularly if they need to drop to low-major or D-2, I think it is a good move for the coach to help him find a landing spot. Players moving to a higher level really don't need the help.

I saw Arkansas State had 2 players re-commit to their team after entering the portal today. Guess you can do that at an Arkansas State, can't see many Valley coaches allowing that unless it's a top player you can't lose.

I find that Wardle comment weird. It’s not marriage.

Would Devries welcome Yesufu back? If they need a PG, do it!

The Yesufu situation is different than what Wardle was referencing. If one of your best guys leaves for a year or two and the situation isn't working out and he wants to come back, then you have a clear and immediate answer. That is different than if a guy notifies the school and a month later decides he doesn't like his options and wants to stay. You've not only wasted you and your staff's time trying to fill that spot, but you've also potentially wasted another kid's time and recruiting window possibly overcommitting a roster spot and having to back down from that. You avoid that altogether by telling your guys upfront that if they put their name in the transfer portal, they are gone.

Yeah. Ok. Depends on the guy, though. If you’re in process of replacing him with someone better, then you’re under no obligation to keep him. But if he’s a guy you want to keep, I would keep him.
Just whatever is better for the program.

LOL.... I hope Rienk Mast calls Wardle next week and says "Coach, I want to have one more run at Bradley."
